Gunning Bedford Mid-Summer Update

As we dive into the heart of summer, we wanted to take a moment to connect with you regarding our upcoming school year. I hope this message finds you enjoying a restful and rejuvenating break with your families.

We are eagerly preparing for the new academic year at Gunning Bedford, and we want to assure you that our commitment to providing a safe, supportive, and enriching environment remains steadfast. Our staff are dedicated to fostering a learning experience that not only challenges our students academically but also nurtures their social and emotional growth.

Your partnership is invaluable to us, and we look forward to working together to ensure a successful year ahead for all our students. Below are important dates and information for the beginning of the year.

As we gear up for the new school year, we are excited to invite you and your child to our upcoming middle school orientation sessions. These orientations are designed to provide both students and parents with essential information and resources to ensure a smooth transition into the new school year. Information that is covered during the orientations will be shared with all families via email.

During the orientation, you can expect to:

1. Learn About Curriculum: Gain insights into the curriculum and educational programs offered at our middle school. We will discuss core subjects, elective options, and extracurricular activities available to students.
   

2. School Policies and Procedures: Understand important school policies, procedures, and expectations regarding attendance, behavior, and academic performance.

6th Grade Orientation: August 7th at 8:00-9:00am and August 8th at 5:30-6:30pm. Both sessions will be the same. Families only need to attend one session.

7th AND 8th Grade Orientation: August 7th at 6:00-7:00pm

We invite parents to join us for our first Family Connections meeting on August 7 from 5:00-5:45pm. Family Connections is our parent committee that works together with our staff to plan school events, fundraisers in addition to collaborating and sharing ideas.

All parents are welcome! We will meet in the auditorium. Please enter through the auditorium doors.

We will hold a walk through for all students and families on August 22 from 4:30-6:30pm. Student homerooms will be posted. Families will be able to walk through the building in order to locate their homerooms. Building maps will be available.

We will continue to have a split start this year. This will enable our incoming 6th graders to have an entire day to transition to middle school.

August 26: First day of school for ONLY STUDENTS IN GRADE 6

August 27: ALL students attend

Student schedules will be available on ClassLink beginning August 17.

Transportation information, including bus numbers and stops, will be mailed home on August 19.

Gunning Bedford will remain a cell-phone free environment. The expectation will continue to be that cell-phones are not to be used during the school day.
