SOUTH SCHOOL

What a fun week we have had at South! Thank you for the PTO for organizing our Fun Run! The students had an absolute blast. With your generous donations, the PTO raised $26,000, primarily covering our curriculum enrichment activities for each grade throughout the year.

We also had the privilege of hosting Ball in the House, an R&B/Soul/Pop acapella group based out of Boston, at South School on Thursday. They spent the morning working with each of our fifth grade classrooms, imparting valuable lessons on how Motown broke racial and musical barriers. The day culminated in a whole school performance, where students discovered the intricacies of acappella, the technology behind a sound system, the various voice parts and how they fit together to make harmony and songs, and even learned how to beatbox and use rhythm. This unique learning experience was made possible by the generous donations from ACE and our PTO.

Our fall picture day is this Wednesday. Flyers were sent home and there is more information below. As a reminder, we do not have school tomorrow. We look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday!

The first six weeks of school are an important time of year to establish routines and expectations. Students have spent this time understanding the core values of our school represented in the acronym SOARS: Safety, Ownership, Acceptance, Respect, and Success. These principles play a crucial role in creating a positive and nurturing school environment for all.

Safety: We prioritize the well-being of every child. Please reinforce with your child the importance of awareness and creating a safe environment for all.

Ownership: Encouraging our students to take responsibility for their actions fosters independence and accountability. Let’s work together to help them understand the impact of their choices.

Acceptance: We celebrate diversity and promote an inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels valued. Encourage your child to embrace differences and make friends from all backgrounds.

Respect: Teaching our children to treat others with kindness and consideration is vital. Let’s model respectful behavior at home and discuss its importance in all interactions.

Success: We believe in each student’s potential. Celebrate their achievements, no matter how small, and encourage a growth mindset in all they do.

We appreciate your partnership in fostering these values at home and school. Together, we can help our students SOAR!

All students (K-5) will be allowed to wear their costumes, if they choose, on Thursday, October 31st. Please have students refrain from wearing masks or anything that represents violence (fake blood, weapons, etc).

We will be having a Kindergarten parade outdoors at 9:30. Kindergarten parents are welcome to attend and meet us outside. If it rains, the parade will be moved indoors for school staff and students only.

All students are able to receive 1 free breakfast and 1 free lunch daily during the 2024-2025 school year. Breakfast will be served in the cafeteria from 8:45 - 9:00 and does not need to be ordered ahead of time.

Lunches will need be preordered. It is very important that our cafeteria has an accurate lunch count each day. Please review with your children each morning what you have ordered for them.
