Winter Weather
I love all four seasons of Michigan but with that comes frequently unpredictable and varying temperatures, particularly this time of year. We plan for kids will go outside for fresh air and active play every day for lunchtime recess. At times there will be extremely cold conditions that prohibit children from being outdoors for recess. As a general rule, when the "feels like" temperature approaches 12 degrees we consider keeping students in, however this guideline is subject to the administrators discretion. Some other factors considered include but are not limited to the presence of sunshine and the strength of the wind.
It is very helpful when kids come to school prepared to dress for all possible weather. Now is a good time to start planning for winter coats, hats, and gloves along with snow pants and snow boots. We have a small closet with limited stores of these items that have been donated throughout the years to help families who need it. Please contact Mrs. Hall in the office if you need help outfitting your kids.
We are also always accepting new and gently used winter wear for kids and families in need.(We are also in need of gently used gym shoes) Please contact Mrs. Hall in the office if you have donations.
Thank you for considering.

All City Vocal Festival
The Royal Oak Performing Arts Department would like to invite you to the 44th Annual All City Vocal Festival set to take place on Monday, November 25th. The event will be performed in the Royal Oak High School Gym, beginning at 7:00pm.
This event will include performances from the Royal Oak High School ensembles, Royal Oak Middle School ensembles, and the combined Elementary Schools' 5th Grade Select Choir. There will also be performances by the All City Men and All City Women Choirs and a special performance by all students in the Combined Choirs.
The All City Vocal Festival is the only event in our amazing district where you are able to listen to both the performances of some of our youngest vocalists through to our most advanced. Throughout this event it is easy to observe the younger vocalists respect and admire those that are more advanced; anticipating the day when they too will be considered an advanced ensemble performer. I am certain, if you are able to attend, you will enjoy the great variety of repertoire and the vocal expertise of our amazing students. Please join us in this annual showcase of our students' vocal music talent.
Professional Learning Mornings
Professional Learning Mornings or "Late Starts" are days when staff report 30 minutes earlier than normal and students report 60 minutes later. Staff have the opportunity to engage in 90 minutes of collaboration and learning. On these Wednesday mornings the first bell will ring at 9:20 a.m. with classes starting at 9:25 a.m. Upcoming Late Starts will be:
- December 11th, and 18th.
- January 29th
Birthday Recognition
Consistent with health and wellness goals and cognizant of various student and staff allergies, Royal Oak Elementary schools recognize student birthdays with non-food-based celebrations. We do recognize birthdays as special days and will recognize a child’s birthday with individual recognition by the classroom teacher. Each teacher will inform you of the specific classroom birthday recognition practice. The students will also have their names announced on the school broadcast and receive a birthday pencil from the office. Please do NOT send food or beverages as birthday treats.
