Mrs. LaRue's Algebra 1 Class Week 2
Monday (August 12th)
#104 Simplifying Expressions
Simplifying Expressions:
In this lesson, students will identify parts of an expression and simplify expressions.
- We will identify like terms then simplify expressions by combining like terms.
- I will explain why m and 3m are considered like terms, but m and m² are not.
- "Why is it important to combine like terms correctly when simplifying expressions? How does this help us understand the structure of an expression?"
Tuesday (August 13th)
#105 Distributive Property
Simplifying Expressions with the Distributive Property
In this lesson, students will simplify expressions with the distributive property and apply the distributive property to real-world situations.
- We will learn how to distribute then simplify the expression.
- I will explain: Does 3ab = 3a⋅ 3b? Explain.
- "How does using the distributive property help us simplify expressions, and why is it important to apply it correctly in real-world situations?"
Wednesday (August 14th)
#106 Solving Multi-Step Equations
Solving Multi-Step Equations:
In this lesson, students will write and solve multi-step equations for real-world situations.
- We will solve equations that require 2 or more steps to solve.
- I will explain if an equation that has 0 for a solution is the same as an equation with no solution?
- "Why is it important to recognize the difference between an equation with no solution and an equation with a solution of 0? How does understanding this distinction help us when solving multi-step equations in real-world scenarios?"
Thursday (August 15th)
#107 Solving Equations with Variables on Both Sides
Equations with Variables on Both Sides: In this lesson, students will write and solve equations with variables on both sides for real-world situations and determine when equations have no solution or infinitely many solutions.
- We will write and solve equations with variables on both sides for real-world situations and determine when equations have no solution or infinitely many solutions.
- I will determine if an equation that has 0 for a solution is the same as an equation with no solution? Explain.
- "How can you determine if an equation with variables on both sides has no solution, exactly one solution, or infinitely many solutions, and what does each type of solution tell you about the relationship between the two sides of the equation?"
