February 2025 Edition
Principal's Message
Hello, Bulldog Families,
As we move into February, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible progress we've made so far this school year. Our students have shown remarkable dedication and resilience, and I am proud of each and every one of them.
Term 1 report cards will be distributed on February 20th. These reports provide valuable insights into you child's academic progress as well as areas where they may need additional support. Please review the report card and consider their achievements and areas for improvement. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to connect with your child's teacher. It is worth noting the importance of regular attendance for academic success. Students can fall behind in their academic, social and emotional learning if they are absent just one or two days every few weeks, including both excused and unexcused absences. If you are concerned about health issues that are preventing your child from attending school, please let us know so that we can ensure they are are supported as needed. We will be sending home letters in the coming weeks to parents and guardians of students with a high number of absences to begin a conversation on how school staff can assist improving attendance in the second term.
I appreciate your continued support and collaboration in ensuring your child's success.
Sincerely,
Jason Huffman
Principal
Cold Weather
It has been a very cold winter so far and we are not at the end of it! When the temperature drops below -20 we will keep students inside. However, anything warmer than that we will be enjoying outdoor recess times. Please ensure your students are arriving to school with the following labeled items: a winter coat, snow pants, hat, mittens, neck warmer/scarf. We also recommend sending additional, labeled mittens as these tend to get wet. There are limited spares available and if your student does not have the appropriate gear for the weather, we will be reaching out to have them delivered. If you are unable to provide these items for any reason, please reach out to the office to make arrangements so that we can ensure your student is able to fully participate in outdoor play.
Winter Clothing Drive
The grade 5/6 and 6 classes worked hard to learn winter clothing vocabulary in French. To consolidate their learning, they made posters for a Winter Clothing Drive here at HBPS. All donations will go to families in need. If you have any gently used winter clothing you would like to donate, it can be dropped off until le 14 Février (February 14th)! Un gros merci (A big thank you)!
Thank You!
In December, we received a very kind donation towards our Nutrition Program from Bennett Construction Group. The generosity of our community is what keeps these programs running and we appreciate their partnership.
Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten Registration is now open for the 2024/2025 school year! These registrations can be completed online through the KRPDSB website: kprschools.ca
Mid Winter Art Night
Join us for an exciting Art Night, where creativity shines! On February 19 from 5:30-6:30 pm students from HBPS will showcase their artwork in a special display. Enjoy a warm cup of hot chocolate as your stroll through the art exhibits; and don’t miss your chance to win a fantastic art basket in our raffle! This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the artistic talents of our students and come together as a school community. We look forward to seeing you there!
Inclement Weather Days
This is the time of year when we anticipate bus cancellations due to weather. We recommend our families download the “BusPlanner Delays” app in order to check for changes to busing, whether delays or cancellations. This is updated in real-time and will always give you the most accurate information.
In the case of bus cancellations, those students riding the bus will be given a “general” absence day, which does not count against their overall attendance record. If you wish for your child to attend on one of these days please know that you are responsible for both their drop off and pick up. The day starts at 9:00 am, and students MUST be picked up by 3:30 pm.
Students who are not provided busing are expected to attend on these days, as the school is open. If you wish to keep your child home please ensure you enter their absence into School Messenger, either on the app or by calling 1-844-434-8119.
If the school is closed you will be informed, and all students will be marked with a general absence.
School Council Fundraiser
Parent Council is excited to share that they will be running a First Aid Safety Kit Fundraiser. Each family will be coming home with a brochure showcasing the various safety kits available for purchase. The fundraiser will run from February 3rd to 21st. This fundraiser will help supply many things for our students such as class trips, hot lunches, and school equipment.
Please use the form on the back of the brochure for orders. Orders must be paid by cash or cheque (made out the Havelock Belmont P.S.) and all orders should be sent back to the school by February 21st. If you require additional order forms, please contact the school.
