Summer Learning 2021
The goal of the TCPS Summer Learning 2021 program is to expand beyond our traditional model of summer school to offer opportunities that help position our students for increased success in the 2021-2022 school year. We recognize that our students have developed skills and knowledge from their experience managing through a global pandemic so all of our programs are planned from an asset-based perspective and not as a response to “learning loss.” Summer Learning 2021 is designed to focus on learning standards and content through experiences that are relevant and honor student interests and strengths.
Elementary programs will be thematic, cross-curricular learning opportunities that incorporate both the related arts and social-emotional learning. Middle school students will have both specific core content programs for enrichment and skill development as well special focus areas such as band and STEM learning. High school will continue to include credit recovery, but will also offer some specialty programs such as the Advanced Placement Academy, CTE labs, and the arts. Summer Learning 2021 will also include opportunities for orientation activities for incoming 6th-grade and 9th-grade students as well as opportunity for students who have been virtual this school year to transition back for in-person learning. Individual schools will be sharing more information about available programs.
Summer Learning 2021 will begin the week of June 21 and end the week of August 12. It will be offered as a half-day program at all school sites except EHS Monday-Thursday (EHS classes will be held at EMS due to renovations taking place at EHS). Breakfast and lunch, as well as transportation, will be provided. Priority registration will begin next week followed by open enrollment in May. Please note that while our summer options are expanded this year, there may be limited capacity due to staffing and interest in registration.
