Lunch with a Loved One
Vinewood's parent or a family member is invited to Lunch with a Loved One (see the flyer below for your child’s designated lunch time) on Friday, September 20th. Parents can bring a bag lunch or something special for you and your child to eat together in our school's Courtyard. Students will have only 20 minutes to eat, so please be prompt by planning ahead in anticipation of long lines at fast food restaurants and challenges of finding parking around our school.

ART RAAB MEMORIAL ESSAY COMPETITION 2024-25
BREAKTHROUGH PROJECT FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE
“We must accept finite disappointment but never lose infinite hope.” Martin Luther King, Jr.
Students write 400-800 words to address:
Challenges and setbacks are a natural part of life, but they should not discourage us from dreaming and striving for a better future. Think about a time when you or someone you know faced a disappointment or challenge. How did that feel? What was learned from that experience?
Reflect on Martin Luther King Jr.’s words and discuss how holding on to hope can help us overcome difficulties and continue to work toward our goals.
In your essay, include:
1. A description of the challenge or setback.
2. How this felt and what was learned from the situation.
3. Your thoughts on why it is important to maintain hope, even in
tough times.
Remember to support your ideas with specific examples and to explain how they connect to the quote. Your essay should be thoughtful, organized, and show an understanding of the message behind Dr. King’s words.
The competition is open to all Lodi Unified School District students in fifth and sixth grades. Teachers are encouraged to have their students enter the competition. Teachers select ONE winning essay from each class to be sent to the ESC for the competition finals. Please write student, teacher and school names on the BACKS of essays. Students will be judged on content and relevance to the theme (50 points), effective expression (30 points) and grammar and originality (10 points each).
Deadline for entries: November 1, 2024
Teachers: Please send 1 winning class essay to Susan Petersen via district mail.
Winners will be notified in December.
