Exciting News at Evans Park - Mar. / Apr.
Together We Can Watch Our Garden Grow
Dear Evans Park Elementary Community,
April is in full swing and at Evans Park we are reflecting on our successes, the growth we have experienced throughout the year, and we're beginning to look forward to an exciting end to our school year. Our Tigers are truly beginning to blossom. This is a busy time filled with exciting trips, learning opportunities, community events, transitions and the celebration of our students.
March and April have brought many opportunities to come together as a school, experience unique learning moments and demonstrate our growth as leaders beyond the classroom. Our Tigers have led by example - exhibiting positive behaviors, championing empathy, and ensuring that Evans Park is a place where every student feels a deep sense of belonging. Together, there is no challenge we cannot overcome!
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership,
Joe Avdek

Tigers Jump Rope for Heart!
Our Physical Education classes partnered with The Kids Heart Challenge for their jump rope unit. Over three weeks, students are learning about the cardio benefits and skills needed in order to be able to maneuver the rope and jump correctly.
The Kids Heart Challenge provides lessons, tools and activities to support both the mental and physical well-being of our students, families, and staff. The money raised will benefit the American Heart Association and will help us purchase Physical Education equipment for our school.

Tigers Set Sail for PRMS
In preparation for the transition to Pearl River Middle School, our fourth grade classes were joined by PRMS school counselors Mr. Bernasconi and Mrs. Beckley to discuss some common concerns and explore exciting opportunities. The counselors answered questions about transitioning between classes, specials and lockers.
Our fourth graders are excited to visit PRMS on April 26th! Fourth grade families are also welcomed for a Parent Orientation on April 25th at 7:00 PM.
Thank you to PRMS Principal Mr. Wright, Mr. Bernasconi, Mrs. Beckley, and the PRMS team for getting our Tigers ready to set sail as Pirates!
PRMS Music Selection
Tigers can make some beautiful music! In April, Evans Park welcomed Dr. Dalandan, Ms. Desir, and Mrs. Hensley to showcase the fabulous musical opportunities available at PRMS. The PRMS is thrilled to offer the opportunity for your fourth grade child to sign up for a music elective.
To learn more about the PRMS music program offerings, and to sign your child up for next year’s class selection, please visit their music department website.
Tigers are Out of this World!
On April 12th, Mr. Price took the students of Evans Park on a journey that was out of this world! Students participated in a living planetarium where they were given props to explore and learn about our solar system.
This wonderful learning activity connected to the solar eclipse that took place on Monday, April 8th. We are grateful to Mr. Price and all of our staff for providing students these amazing learning experiences...these interdisciplinary opportunities create memories that will last a lifetime!
Together, Tigers Can Support School Belonging
Celebrating Tigers
We are excited to highlight our students, who over the past six weeks have collected over 4,000 tickets for demonstrating acts of kindness, readiness and safety. To celebrate, all classes were able to participate in a school reward on April 19th. Students had the opportunity to watch Wall-E, a film that draws connections to our 'One School, One Book' (The Wild Robot) and emphasizes how responsibility and hard work can positively impact our world.
At Evans Park and in the PRSD, our Tigers work together to build a community of belonging through learning and kindness!
Together, Tigers Can Persevere!
Perseverance means overcoming an obstacle by working hard, staying positive, practicing to make progress, and using the strength of our friends. This month, students were celebrated for showing a Little Spot of Perseverance and not giving up.
As an extra-special part of our assembly, the Tigers' Student Council joined in to share a special poem and help bring our school all together. Thank you to our students for showing perseverance and working to achieve our goals!
Designing with Empathy
As part of our One School, One Book campaign students were challenged to design a robot with a mind of engineering and empathy! Thank you to all of those who submitted creative and unique robot designs. The robots were innovative, well thought-out and showcased an empathetic perspective. We received robots of every size and species!
All the robots were on display in our main hallway for the whole school to appreciate. In celebration of these amazing designs, they will be on display at the District Office after April 19th, 2024.
Save the Dates!
We are excited to usher in the final stretch of our 2023-2024 academic year. This is a time filled with much excitement and anticipation!
In order to prepare and to cordially invite our community, I wanted to share a list of the upcoming events and special moments at Evans Park. Please be sure to read the lists of exciting upcoming events!
Campus Safety at Evans Park
The safety of our children, families and staff are of the utmost priority. A notice was shared with our community last month discussing a matter of our dismissal and arrival times. Working together for the betterment of our children and school community, we can make the necessary changes for the safety of all.
At the entrance of our campus on Marion and Patton Place during arrival and dismissal, cars have parked on both sides of the street facing the wrong direction, or are parked in the "No Parking" zones. These cars are obstructing the view of our buses and walking families. This has led to congestion, later dismissal times, and an unsafe environment for our students and families both on, and off, of our campus.
I ask for your partnership and support in maintaining the safety of our students, families, staff and buses during arrival and dismissal. We ask that you follow all traffic laws and safe practices both while driving and parking on and off of our campus during arrival and dismissal times.
Evans Park PTA
All parents and teachers are urged to join the Evans Park PTA to unite home, school and the community for our children. Money raised through dues and fundraising is used for cultural arts assemblies, after-school programs, field trips, instructional equipment and materials, and similar needs. Please follow this link for more information.
We are grateful for the amazing support of our PTA and their partnership in creating incredible opportunities for all of our students!
Dismissal Reminder
Please be sure to email your child's classroom teacher and our Main Office (at ZeppetellaM@PearlRiver.org and FreemanK@PearlRiver.org) before 11:30 AM of any changes to dismissal for the day. In order to coordinate a safe and efficient dismissal, we kindly ask for your support.
