Paul Duke STEM Newsletter
Week of August 28th , 2023
To support the transition to high school, ninth graders will be required to attend Flex Friday for the first five weeks of school – 8/4, 8/11, 8/18, 8/25, and 9/1

What is PBIS? PBIS is an approach schools use to promote school safety and good behavior. With PBIS, students learn about behavior expectations and strategies for the school and classrooms. The school matrix explains the behavior expectations and is posted throughout the school.
- Students can earn points for exhibiting these behaviors in the hallways, classrooms, and cafeteria. Students can view their points at any time in the PBIS Rewards App (linked on the PDS eClass page) and can redeem these for treats and events.
- Last week the students participated in a schoolwide pep rally to learn which house they would be grouped into for the year. The houses allow students to build community with their advisement class, compete against other houses, and earn points for end of semester events.

This unified communications platform is designed to keep parents and guardians informed and encourage greater engagement and connection with your child’s school and Gwinnett County Public Schools.
ParentSquare provides a safe way for district administrators, school principals, teachers, staff, and parents to receive and send information, such as:
- Weather-related closings & delays
- School and class information
- Share pictures and files
- See calendar items
- Upcoming class activities
Beginning July 18, 2023, district and school information will now be sent to your computer or phone via email and/or text via ParentSquare. Please note that some schools and teachers may still use other district-approved tools for the 2023-2024 school year to communicate with their families.

CARE TEAM WISHLIST
The Care Team has created a wish list to help keep our "Need One, Take One" personal care supplies stocked. It's been a tough year, and some may find themselves having to pick and choose what makes it into the grocery cart each month. We have placed a bin in one of our girl's restrooms, hoping to share items in a more discrete way.
Thank you for your support of our students!

ife360 is a family communication, location and alert app for smartphones that allows users to share their locations with each other. Once set up on a phone, Life360 allows the administrating phone to set geo-fences defining chosen areas.
Screentime
Screen Time lets you see exactly how much time your kids spend on their phones and tablets, the times of day they're most active, and which apps they use the most. You can also set app time limits, filter inappropriate content, and schedule "downtime" -- basically, shut down the device -- whenever you want.
eTips
Encourage your teen to put opinions in writing
Many teens are interested in solving problems and improving situations in the world around them. Whether the cause is the environment or money for a new school building, getting involved is a good opportunity for learning. When your teen shows enthusiasm for a cause, suggest writing a letter to the editor of a local newspaper. Your teen will get an outlet for self-expression and practice organizing thoughts in writing. https://tpitip.com/?32hS18608
