PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Hello Darby Families!
Happy October! These past two months have gone by so quickly! The old saying "time flies when you are having fun" is so true! The change in the weather and cooler temperatures are much welcomed by our students and staff.
This is a busy month full of activities. Our fine arts programs have been practicing hard and are ready for their first performance of the year. I hope you are able to come and support our choir, orchestra, and band students by watching them in concert.
Choir Concert- October 12th, 6:30pm at Northside Auditorium
Band Concert- October 19th, 6:00pm, Darby front lawn
Orchestra Concert- October 28th, 7:00pm at Darby Auditorium
Fall pictures will be October 11th for all Darby students. We do not allow partner or group pictures. Students may dress up but still need to be in dress code. We have a new yearbook committee this year and look forward to having our first ever Darby Middle School yearbook!
Please save the dates for Parent Teacher Conferences on October 18th and October 21st from 3:30-6:30. These conferences will be face-to-face this year and we are excited to have parents back on campus! Teachers will be available these nights to answer any questions you might have and report on your student's progress. More details coming soon!
Just a reminder that there will be no school on October 22nd. It is a professional development day for teachers.
The week of October 25-29 is National Red Ribbon week. The theme this year is "Drug Free Looks Like Me". This theme is a reminder that everyday our students can make significant daily contributions to our school and community by being the best they can be because they live drug free! We will have activities throughout this week planned for our students to celebrate this healthy way of life.

Daily Tips for Families
Stop a tobacco habit before it starts!
According to one survey, teens are most likely to begin smoking between the ages of 13 and 15. And the fact is that people who start smoking as teens also have a harder time quitting. Discuss the dangers of tobacco use in all its forms (including vaping) with your teen, and remind her that once she begins she may not be able to stop. Don't wait until your teen gets older before discouraging tobacco use. By then, it may be too late.
