Superintendent Community Update
August 9, 2024
Superintendent's Message
Dear JUHSD Community,
Welcome back to the 24-25 school year!
Our first week has been filled with positive energy and excitement. As I visited all of our sites on the first day of school and throughout the week, it has been awesome to see enthusiasm from both students and staff as they embark on the new year together. Our staff members are working to foster a sense of community and belonging in their classrooms and schools, and there is a positive feeling in all of our schools.
Being involved in clubs, activities, and events not only enriches students' educational experiences, but also helps them to build new friendships, learn new skills, and develop a sense of belonging. All of our sites have a wide variety of academic, athletic, and extracurricular opportunities available. I encourage you to get involved!
Below, you will read about our Welcome Back Staff Development Day. It was truly inspirational, and I am humbled to be of service to our community. Please take some time to read about it.
My door is always open, so please reach out. Here's to a successful and rewarding 2024-2025 school year!
In partnership,
Toni Presta

JUHSD Staff Welcome Back Meeting
A Day of Inspiration and Community Building
What a fantastic day we had at our JUHSD staff welcome back meeting! Our professional development theme for the day was “Creating a Space of Belonging in the School Community,” and it set the stage for an impactful and enriching experience for everyone involved.
We were truly honored to hear from our keynote speaker, Dr. Allyson Tintiangco-Cubales, whose presentation on Ethnic Studies as a Catalyst for Community Responsive Belonging was nothing short of inspiring. Dr. Tintiangco-Cubales highlighted the crucial role that ethnic studies can play in fostering a deeper sense of belonging and inclusivity within our school community.
Following the keynote, we were privileged to engage with an insightful Ethnic Studies student panel, which was informed by recent student survey data. This survey gauged students' feelings of being seen, heard, and valued on campus, and the results provided a powerful foundation for the panel discussion. Moderated by Dan Arzaga and Melissa Ambrose, the student panelists shared their personal experiences and perspectives, shedding light on the profound impact that ethnic studies has had on their lives and learning experiences. They spoke about both the positive aspects of their school experience and shared ideas for improvement. Their feedback highlighted the diverse ways students experience our school environment, offering valuable perspectives on what contributes to or detracts from their sense of belonging.
As we embark on this new school year, let us carry forward the lessons and inspiration from our welcome back meeting. Here’s to a year filled with learning, growth, and a stronger sense of community. Together, let’s make it our best year yet, dedicated to creating spaces where every member of our school community can thrive and belong.

Covid Updates
JUHSD continues to take proactive measures to ensure the health and safety of their students and staff in light of the ongoing COVID-19 situation. The District will continue to follow guidance from county and state authorities, a crucial part of managing and preventing the spread of the virus within the school community.
District sites will continue to offer take home antigen tests to students and staff upon request from the school's front office. Please note that many tests are still okay to use past the expiration date printed on the box. To see the shelf life of a specific brand of test, please click here.
JUHSD will continue to update their COVID Dashboard when positive cases are reported to the District. When a student or staff member tests positive, we ask they notify their site attendance office and fill out this self-reporting form, along with following this current guidance from the California Department of Public Health.
