Retake Picture Day is 11/06/2023! If you're satisfied with your child's picture, no further action is required.

If you purchased and were unhappy with your Picture Package, please send your Picture Package to school with your student on Retake Day. Your Retake Picture Package will be produced and shipped to the school four weeks after Retake Day. Please note, if your child is photographed on the original and Retake Picture Days, the Retake picture will replace the original picture in certain products, like the yearbook.

Students who were absent for Picture Day should come to school prepared to have their picture taken. If you have not preordered, please use the Retake Order Code 78428DF to place your order at https://inter-state.com/Order. To see your Order History, check your Inter-State Account.

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to South Elementary the week of November 13th.

Our school will be partnering with the Monique Burr Foundation for Children, a leader in abuse and bullying prevention, to implement their comprehensive, evidence-based prevention program called MBF Child Safety Matters®. Students receive two fun, engaging, and developmentally appropriate classroom lessons that educate and empower them to prevent, recognize, and respond appropriately to bullying, cyberbullying, all types of child abuse, digital abuse, and other digital dangers. A trained facilitator will be implementing the program in classrooms. Parents will receive information and materials as students participate in the lessons. Would you please place in your next Newsletter the following information? This is a draft, please change if needed.

The MSD of Martinsville is partnering with volunteers from the Martinsville Noon Lions Club to facilitate State required vision screenings for the following grades: K, 1, 3, 5, and 8. If your child is in another grade and you would like them to be screened, please send an email to lora.dilley@msdmartinsville.org and give your child's name, grade, and school.

The screening is a very simple procedure and will take only a few minutes. If you do not want your child to participate in the screening, please decline in a written note sent to the clinic.

No report will be sent home if your child passes the vision screening.

Letters will be sent home prior to the screening with dates set by our volunteers.

The Spell Bowl team practices weekly for the competition on November 13th at Newby Elementary School.

The South Robotics Team meets Thursdays 6-7:30PM at South.

To report an absence for your child, please call the office at

Doctor statements should be faxed to 765-349-5247 or given to the office.

Please make sure students arrive on time. The morning bell rings at 8:40 to start class. It rings at 10:40 on Wednesdays to start class.

Only adults listed on a student's emergency contacts will be able to check out a student from school. In addition, anyone picking up a child, will need identification to be able to check a student out of school. Students will be counted tardy if leaving school early.

No visitors will be allowed beyond the front foyer area unless they have an approved, scheduled meeting. We will not be having visitors for breakfast or lunch. All visitors must have a background check on file in the office before volunteering.

The MSD of Martinsville is offering free after school tutoring. If you are interested in more information for your child, please contact your child's teacher.

Anyone wishing to volunteer in the classroom, help out with parties, or attend a field trip must have a background check completed before participating. This process can take time so please contact the office at least two days before your scheduled event. Request made at the last minute may prevent or delay participation in an event.

Federal funding has been made available through school-wide Title I services to South Elementary for the purpose of providing students with extra support in reading and language arts. This extra support is availabe for all students at South Elementary. Classroom teachers, Title I teachers, and instructional assistants will provide assistance in reading, language arts, and math through small group and indivdual instruction as children demonstrate need for support. Please contact Julie Sullivan at 765-349-1486 Ext. 1654 with any questions about support your child may receive.

Want to get involved?!? Join South Elementary School PTO!!! The monthly meetings will be the first Tuesday of each month at 7PM. Our next meeting will be on November 7th at 7PM in the library. PTO has spirit wear available for purchase.
