NEWS FROM MRS. McGOWAN
LLD News:
The beautiful weather is finally here! It is time to get outside and enjoy the warm sunshine! Here are 10 outdoor adventures you can plan with your child according to sussexnj.macaronikid.com:
1. Nature walk treasure hunt-Turn an everyday walk around the block into an exciting treasure hunt by giving the kids a list of items to find like budding flowers and flying insects.
2. Plant flowers-Planting flowers with kids is the perfect opportunity to teach them about nature, responsibility, and the joy of getting absolutely covered in dirt.
3. DIY bird feeders-Whip up some bird feeders using good ol' pinecones, peanut butter/nut-free butter, and birdseed.
4. Picnic extravaganza-Pack the most randomly assorted snacks in your pantry that never get eaten, throw down a blanket in the nearest patch of grass, and boom: instant adventure.
5. Build a fairy house-Let your kids get creative building a fairy house in the backyard.
6. Bubble madness-Whip up some homemade bubble solution (click link for bubble recipe) and let the bubble-blowing (and popping) contest begin.
7. Do a rain dance-Gear up in raincoats and boots and head outside to dance, jump, and splash in puddles.
8. Go on a worm hunt-After a good rain, go on a worm hunt. It's squishy, it's slimy, and oddly fascinating.
9. Outdoor movie night-Set up a makeshift movie theater in your backyard with a sheet and a projector if you have one.
10. Backyard camping-Pitch a tent in the backyard or just throw a bunch of blankets on the trampoline and have a camping night.

NEWS FROM MRS. DIRIENZO
Spring is finally here, and with it comes beautiful weather, and lots of (incredibly fun) distractions for students. So, as the weather gets warm, and spring fever officially hits, it’s important for parents and educators to help children stay focused and maintain their motivation, in order to succeed through the end of the year. Here are some of the things that we can do to keep kids motivated to end the year on a high note:
Grab a snack and head outside to a nice shady spot to study.
Take movement breaks. Moving around, after a long stretch of motionless studying, revives the body and refreshes fatigued minds.
Remember the big picture. When children are feeling unmotivated, they need gentle reminders of what they have been working toward and how far they have already come this school year.
With the right plan in mind, children can beat spring fever in order to reach new heights in their academic achievement. And leaving the school year on a positive note will help them start the following year in a positive manner as well!

NEWS FROM ART
Art News
Our 4th grade artists recently completed Pop Art Ice Cream Collage. After discussing the life,
history and works of Pop Artist Andy Warhol (1928 – 1987), students explored mixed media
techniques creating their collages. Construction paper, tempera paint, cotton, pompoms and
the texture of paper towels were used to produce their original designs. The Elements and
Principles of Design Line, Shape, Pattern, Color, Texture and Value were reinforced during the
creative process.

NEWS FROM MRS. GARRIGAN
April is a perfect time of year to talk about seasons, especially spring! There are so many great topics during this time of year including weather, plants, rain, flowers and animals. This is the perfect time of year to take learning outside and experience nature! Get outside and plant flowers this spring! Involve your child in the entire process: buying the seeds, the pot, and the soil, planting the seeds, watering them each day, and watching them grow! Have fun getting a little muddy! Throughout April, put an emphasis on sequencing. Working on sequencing will help your child explain and describe events or actions. Use words such as first, next, then, and last. You can do this before, during, or after activities such as reading a book, planting seeds, or going to the store. "First we need to get in the car.” "What do we need to do last?” “Next we will get milk and then we will get cheese.” “How do you plant a flower? What do we do first?” Check out "And Then It’s Spring" by Julie Fogliano. This book is perfect for discussing themes related to spring. Read the book and then have some fun planting seeds. Watch as the world around you goes from brown to green.
