Dear La Porte ISD Stakeholders,
As we approach the start of a new school year, I am filled with excitement and optimism for what lies ahead. Last week, we welcomed our new teachers to the district for professional development. Their enthusiasm and commitment are already evident, and I am confident they will be wonderful additions to our school community.
All our dedicated teachers will be returning on Monday, ready to embrace the new year with renewed energy and passion. Everyone will spend the next several days participating in professional development, preparing their classrooms and coordinating curriculum and other plans with colleagues. We can't wait to welcome students on August 14!
Superintendent Shout-outs
- We learned this past week that breakfast and lunch will be free for all La Porte ISD students in the 2024-25 school year. During a time of heightened inflation in our country, this is welcome news to all of us. Many thanks to our School Nutrition Department, led by Ralph Wilkins, for securing these free, nutritious meals. Our students and families will benefit greatly!
- Mega shout-out to our District Teachers of the Year, Julie Spears and Tara Ybarra, who were honored this past week by Region 4, along with other top teachers from across Greater Houston. Thank you for choosing La Porte!
- I had the pleasure of meeting many of our newest teachers this past week, and I was extremely impressed with their energy and passion. Kudos to each and every one of you, and welcome to the La Porte ISD Family!
- Huge thanks to the La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of Commerce and the La Porte Education Foundation for your warm welcome to our new teachers at the annual New Teacher Breakfast and Lunch. We are also grateful to all of our partners who gave door prizes and loaded up our new employees with giveaways.
- Speaking of our supporters, our community partners this past week held their annual Fill the Bus school supplies drive during which residents, civic clubs, small businesses and corporations made donations to help our students. Because of the outpouring of generosity, hundreds of La Porte ISD children will start school with a backpack full of supplies at no cost to their families.
- Finally, members of the Mighty Bulldog Marching Band, Chatos, JROTC and La Porte Cheer teams took a break from their own summer rehearsals to help us welcome new teachers this past week. We are all grateful to you and your parents for helping us to ensure a warm greeting for our newest La Porte ISD employees.
I look forward to a year of growth, learning, and success for all our students. Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Together, let's make this an exceptional school year!
