Nutrition and Healthy Eating
Many people in the United States do not eat a healthy diet. The Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion focuses on helping people get the recommended amounts of healthy foods — like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains — to reduce their risk for chronic diseases and improve their health.1 Their objectives also aim to help people obtain the recommended amounts of key nutrients, like calcium and potassium.
People who eat too many unhealthy foods — like foods high in saturated fat and added sugars — are at increased risk for obesity, heart disease, type two diabetes, and other health problems. Many people in the United States do not eat a healthy diet. Strategies and interventions to help people choose healthy foods can help reduce their risk of chronic diseases and improve their overall health.
Some people do not have the information they need to choose healthy foods. Other people do not have access to healthy foods or cannot afford to buy enough food. Public health interventions that focus on helping everyone get healthy foods are key to reducing food insecurity and hunger and improving health, diabetes, and other health problems.
Cuero ISD Kindness Trees Blooming at JCF and Hunt
Kindness tress started blooming at both Hunt and French Elementary this February. Each student provided "leaves" for the trees with notes of kindness. Some students made recommendations such as "help someone who needs it". Others suggested that "kindness matters", "smiles are free" and "treat others like you want to be treated." If you have lunch with your student, make sure to check out our Kindness Trees. Let's watch that kindness continue to blossom throughout the year. Remember to plant seeds of kindness, and watch them grow.
