We have had yet another very busy, yet productive week in school with various events happening both inside and outside of the classroom.
This Week
Science Week
This week has been Science Week and to support this year’s theme of ‘Change and Adapt’, we set pupils a challenge to design and make a bridge using recyclable materials which could hold a weight and allow a small car to travel underneath. We were extremely grateful to receive materials from home in order to complete this challenge and it was wonderful to see so many parents and carers come into the workshop afternoons to help and support the pupils with the project. There were some amazing bridges to be seen and it is evident that the adults who attended enjoyed the activity as much as the pupils! There will be a winner chosen from each phase in school and these will be announced next week.
A short while ago, I was contacted by a parent of a pupil in school who made me aware of a free funding scheme where Yorkshire Water would install sustainable drainage systems in suitable schools to reduce flooding and sewer blockages. Following a recent assessment, we were given the go ahead to have five planters fitted and we think that they look amazing! A huge thank you to Mr Dunn-Birch for contacting me and to Yorkshire Water for giving us this opportunity to do even more than we are for the environment.

On Thursday, EYFS walked to St Giles Church in Pontefract. They met Father Ian Bullock, as part of their 50 Experiences passports, who welcomed them warmly to his church. They then wad a walk around Pontefract exploring the local town.
As you know, we are working hard in school to ensure that pupil well-being is central to all that we do. Today, we raised the profile of our Mental Health Ambassadors even further by giving them their own ‘Here to Help’ cap to wear during playtimes and lunchtimes. The pupils can now be more visible to others during these busy times.

Maths Challenges
On a final note, I would like to share that our school community raised £317 last week for the Hands Across Wakefield even that took part in. The Charity are extremely grateful to everyone for the support they received. Thank you for your kind donations.
