February Standard Response Protocol Drill (SRP)-HOLD (Medical Emergency)
Jackson Families,
School safety is critical to high quality learning and the Manitowoc Public School District utilizes the K12 Standard Response Protocol (SRP/SRM) for all schools. The SRP provides five safety response protocols. Those five responses are SECURE - LOCKDOWN - EVACUATE - SHELTER - HOLD. The SRP provides for a standard response that is shared with students, staff, visitors and with our first responders from the Fire and Police Departments.
Each month throughout the school year, all schools will train on one of the five responses. The training is designed to create knowledge, answer questions, and build familiarity for all students, staff and visitors.
Soon we will practice a HOLD. A hold is utilized when we need to keep the hallways clear. During a HOLD we will limit our use of the hall, yet we will continue learning in our classrooms. During any safety practice or live event please pay close attention to your teachers instructions. Please take a moment to talk with your teacher and ask any questions you may have about prior to our practice of a HOLD. We will announce a HOLD like this:
HOLD
Hold! In your classroom. Clear the halls.
Hold! In your classroom. Clear the halls.
If you have questions or concerns, contact the school principal, Jill DeRosier @ 920-663-9522.
National School Counselor Week
This past week, February 3-7, we celebrated National School Counselor Week. I would like to give a HUGE shout out to, Amy Wiesner, our Jackson School Counselor. Amy Wiesner goes above and beyond on a daily day to support students, staff and families. She also works incredibly hard to build relationships with Jackson students, staff, and families. We appreciate you, Amyđź’›!
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent Teacher Conferences are fast approaching. Conferences will be held Thursday, February 13th from 8 AM - 7 PM. You should have received an IC blast in your emails for sign up details and links. If you are having any issues signing up - please reach out to your student's teacher or the office at 920-663-9520. We will be happy to help.
Community Safety Meeting
As of Dec. 18th, 2024, there were 323 incidents of school shootings in the United States. There is no denying that this is a scary statistic. Many times we feel helpless and have no idea how we can make a positive difference. In this case, it is important to become educated about the warning signs of school violence. The sooner we can identify a potential threat, we can start to intervene and provide support to avoid an escalated situation. Join us on Wednesday, Feb. 12th in the Wilson Middle School Auditorium for an informational session to learn more about how you can play a part in preventing school violence.

Literacy Chat
We are cruising along in third quarter. I want to congratulate all of our students for working so
hard throughout the first semester of school. At the end of second quarter, Jackson has 58% of
our students reading at grade level proficiency. This was a 2% increase from first quarter. This is
fantastic! I am so proud of everyone and their efforts! I cannot wait to see where this will take us
at the end of third quarter!
Homework is an important piece of your child’s reading success. Please make sure your child is
reading at home. A parent needs to sign the gold homework log and return the homework bag
Mondays through Thursdays. Homework is being documented in each SFA classroom. Homework
will only be counted if the gold log sheet is signed.
As you're aware, our Getting Along Together (GAT) program promotes meaningful connections
between students, proven to enhance positive social and behavioral outcomes. Among the many
tools at our disposal, encouraging words stand out as a powerful means to spread kindness. Let's
make encouraging words the foundation of this new year!
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I will be available for any questions
during Parent/Teacher Conferences. Please feel free to stop in my room.
Thank you for your ongoing support in your child’s educational success!

March is Youth Art Month
To celebrate the fine arts in our public schools, the MPSD is once again collaborating with the Rahr West Art Museum to bring “Youth Art Series” to our community! The exhibition is composed of nearly 1,000 works of art by student artists in elementary, middle, and high school. Immerse yourself in the creative energy of our local youth artists by viewing the exhibit from March 2nd through March 30th. A casual reception is open to the public to honor and recognize the MPSD’s aspiring visual artists and will take place on Sunday, March 2nd from 1:00 - 4:00pm.
The Rahr-West Art Museum is a City of Manitowoc facility. There is no fee for admission. Donations are gratefully accepted.
