Weekly Vinewood Parent Club News!
Wow. what a busy few weeks we have had and still have coming!! Thank you again to everyone who have generously donated to our Mustang Night Out auction. We will have our final amount raised next week. We are looking forward to seeing everyone at STEAM night this week on Wednesday, September 11th from 5:00-6:30 P.M. 6th graders will be selling hot dogs, pizza, snacks and drinks to raise money for science camp. Additionally, we will have Kona Ice parked in the bus loop so you may grab cool treat benefitting 6th grade science camp.
Thank you to everyone who generously donated time and money to the 6th grade performance this past week. It was a huge success, raising about $2,800 toward science camp. It was so fun to see the 6th graders in their roles, with their hard work on display.

6th Grade Families - Urgent!
We are in dire need of parent volunteers at STEAM night. If we want to offset the cost of camp, it is going to take everyone coming together to help. Please find a time you can help supervise students selling.https://bit.ly/3SZGUvl
Sponsorship Opportunity
Our 5th and 6th graders are seeking sponsorships to help reduce the overall cost of science camp. Sponsors will be recognized on t-shirts worn by students and banners displayed on the school fence.

Art Raab Memorial Essay Competition (5th & 6th Graders)
ART RAAB MEMORIAL ESSAY COMPETITION 2024-25
BREAKTHROUGH PROJECT FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE
“We must accept finite disappointment but never lose infinite hope.” Martin Luther King, Jr.
Students write 400-800 words to address:
Challenges and setbacks are a natural part of life, but they should not discourage us from dreaming and striving for a better future. Think about a time when you or someone you know faced a disappointment or challenge. How did that feel? What was learned from that experience?
Reflect on Martin Luther King Jr.’s words and discuss how holding on to hope can help us overcome difficulties and continue to work toward our goals.
In your essay, include:
1. A description of the challenge or setback.
2. How this felt and what was learned from the situation.
3. Your thoughts on why it is important to maintain hope, even in
tough times.
Remember to support your ideas with specific examples and to explain how they connect to the quote. Your essay should be thoughtful, organized, and show an understanding of the message behind Dr. King’s words.
The competition is open to all Lodi Unified School District students in fifth and sixth grades. Teachers are encouraged to have their students enter the competition. Teachers select ONE winning essay from each class to be sent to the ESC for the competition finals. Please write student, teacher and school names on the BACKS of essays. Students will be judged on content and relevance to the theme (50 points), effective expression (30 points) and grammar and originality (10 points each).
Deadline for entries: November 1, 2024
Teachers: Please send 1 winning class essay to Susan Petersen via district mail.
