JANUARY Newsletter
Principal's Message
Hello Amazing Cascadia Families!
As we approach winter break, I want to take a moment to thank you for sharing your wonderful children with us. It is truly a privilege to work alongside you to support their growth and learning.
While this break is a great opportunity to relax and enjoy time together as a family, I encourage you to help your child maintain some healthy routines during these two weeks. Regular sleep schedules, limiting technology use, and engaging in daily reading are all small habits that can make a big difference in helping your child return to school ready to succeed. Exploring creative activities, enjoying outdoor play, and sharing conversations about their day are also meaningful ways to keep their minds and bodies active.
We are grateful for the partnership we share with you in nurturing your child’s development. Wishing you and your family a safe, joyful, and restful winter break!
Happy Holidays from your very grateful principal,
Dawn Christiana
Student Arrival To School
Safety is our top priority and as the weather gets colder it is even more important we not have students dropped off before 9:05 am. There is no supervision for students until then. Here is our morning schedule:
9:05 – Students may arrive and go directly to breakfast
9:15 – 1st bell for students to go directly to class (some may be finishing breakfast)
9:25 – 2nd bell rings for class to officially begin (students not in class at that time go to the office for a note)
Before school care options:
· The YMCA is located at Cascadia for before school daycare, please call for more information 733-8630.
· The Boys & Girls club is in Ferndale with limited transportation to and from Cascadia. For more information call 360-384-0753.
Attendance Update and Celebration
Breakfast at School FIRST!
Many students are enjoying school breakfast this year. To be sure they have time to eat and get to class by 9:25, please remind your child to go directly to breakfast when they arrive. After winter break, we will close the kitchen at 9:20am. Cereal will still be available for late arrivals, and we'll help them get to class promptly. Thank you for your support!
Happy New Year Expectation Review
As we enter January it is a great time to review our school expectations. When we return from break staff will be reminding students, we expect Cascadia Gryphons to be respectful, responsible, safe and kind. You can review these expectations by taking a look at our matrix with your child.
Review our whole Cascadia Handbook here. If you don't see information you think we should have in the handbook, please let us know. Thank you!
Readers wanted!
We have some students who are at the "Read to Me" level. This means they are still learning how books work, what words are and benefit from being read to. This helps build a strong foundation for when they are ready to read on their own. Even if you only have 15 minutes to spare you could stop in and read with one of our students. There is a kit set up in the office with books and directions. Thank you for considering being one of our "Read to Me" volunteers. Our goal is to read 500 books to these readers! We'd love your help!!!
