Lester Park School Newsletter #32
April 4, 2024
Hello from the Front Desk!
Starting next week, 3rd-5th graders will have MCA testing in the mornings. Keep an eye out for communications from your child's Teacher on the testing information. Please be sure to note the dates/times as the office staff must not disrupt a classroom in the middle of MCA tests. if a classroom has started testing, we are unable to call up for a student, nor send a student down to their class. More information about MCA testing can be found further down in this newsletter. Thank you for understanding.

Share Your Spring Break Fun With Us!
Whether you are going on vacation or enjoying a "staycation" at home, we want to hear about your spring break fun! You can do this a couple of ways...
- Send us a postcard! Postcards can be sent to Lester Park Elementary School, 5300 Glenwood Street, Duluth, MN 55804
- Draw a picture! Pictures can be brought to the Lester Park office when you return to school on Monday, April 22.
Postcards and pictures will be displayed in our front hallway this spring. We can't wait to hear about your break!
Boots Required on the Field
The snow is almost gone, but the school field will remain very wet through next week. As a result, students who want to use the field through next week will need to wear boots. The field may be closed for a few days in order protect what grassy areas have survived the winter.
"Walk to School Day" Opt Out form for Bussers
Walk/Bike to School Day is on May 8, 2024 (rain date is May 15).
Students are encouraged to walk or bike to school as able.
Similar to last year, Students who ride the bus will also be included in this event. Instead of being dropped off at the school, they will be dropped off at the Anchor Point Community Church parking lot (5202 Colorado Street) and walk up 52nd Avenue to the school bus doors. Many volunteers will accompany the students.
- If you wish your child to to opt out, please fill out this form Alternate Bus Drop Off Opt Out. It is then your responsibility to notify your child to remain on the bus.
- If no opt-out form is completed, the assumption is that your child will participate in the alternate drop off.
- Please fill out one Opt Out form PER STUDENT.
- Questions? Please email ptalp709@gmail.com
Volunteers needed to guide Bussers safely to School!
The PTA/Wellness Committee is asking for volunteers to help along the route mentioned above!
If you are interested, please fill out this form: "Walk/Bike to School" Volunteer form
Also, please indicate if you would be available to help on the Rain Date 5/15/24.
Volunteers should park and meet at Lester Park School. From there they will be directed to their station - will require a short walk.
Thank you to the PTA & Wellness Committee for organizing this fun event!
March Food Drive Wrap Up
Thank you for your generous donations to our 15th annual food drive! We were able to raise 2,511 pounds of food and $1919 for the Union Gospel Mission!!
The classrooms that brought in the most food/money and will be receiving a classroom celebration prize are: Ms Davidson's 3rd grade, Mrs. Baker's Kindergarten, and Ms Sorbo's 3rd grade! Congratulations to these students!
Thank you, students and families, for making our Food Drive a HUGE Success! Special thanks to Super One Lakeside & Kenwood, Sammy's Pizza, Papa Murphy's Pizza, Ruby's Pantry, Cub Foods, and Sam's Club. A huge shoutout to the Lester Park School Foundation as they are donating popsicles to all students as a "thank you and a job well done"!
You did it!!! We had some fun and raised over a ton!!!
Important MCA Testing Information
3rd-5th Graders will participate in the annual MCA testing the week before and after Spring Break.
5th Graders will also have a few more testing dates the two weeks after this (during the week of April 29 and May 6).
Please pay close attention to emails from your child's teacher about their testing dates and times, as classrooms cannot be disrupted once a testing session has begun!
If a parent drops off their 3rd-5th grader late and MCA testing has started...
Office staff will email the teacher, then hold the student in the office until we hear from the teacher that he/she can go to the classroom. This may result in the student waiting over an hour in the office.
If a parent comes to pick up their 3rd-5th grader during their scheduled MCA testing time...
Office staff will NOT call for the student. We will email the teacher to let them know a parent is here to pick the child up. The parent can then choose to wait in the vestibule or leave as it may take quite awhile before the student can leave the classroom.
Most of the testing will be done during the morning. So if you have a morning appointment scheduled for your child, it would be a good idea to give your child's teacher a heads up. Again this is only for 3rd - 5th Grade. Thank you ~Lester Park Office
5th Grade News Returns!
No News this week as our 5th graders are on their amazing Wolf Ridge trip Wednesday through Friday.
Family Climate Survey
Dear Lester Park Families,
We are asking all parents/guardians to fill out our school climate survey. Your input is extremely valuable to us and provides schools with a comprehensive understanding of how families perceive school climate. This information will be used to inform school and district plans to make improvements.
The survey is anonymous and voluntary and you do not have to provide your name and have the option to select “Prefer not to answer” on all items including demographic information. Thank you for taking the time to complete this to help us move forward at Lester Park!
