Friday Feedback - It's Back!
...and I know it's only Thursday :)
"Know Thy Impact"
If you look at the chart on slide 24 of the "Behaviors of a Collaborative Culture" presentation (from Friday August 19 as a whole staff) you will see several areas of the GRR listed under the "Teacher Domain" =
1. Cooperative Learning - Impact Size = .59 (well over a year's plus growth if used regularly throughout a lesson cycle)
2. Focus Lesson and "Clarity of Lesson Goals" - Impact Size = .75 (almost double a year's plus growth); Direct Instruction - Impact Size = .59
3. Guided Instruction and Modeling (Worked Examples) - Impact Size = .57
4. Independent Practice/Practice Work (Formative Evaluations) - Impact Size = .90!!!
***It's important to remember, that it's only "Formative" if you use the data to inform and adjust your practice or your strategies with that student or students. Assigning math problems daily but not really adjusting your instruction is not formative.
In conclusion, when the features of the Gradual Release of Responsibility are partnered together in a well planned learning cycle, learning will accelerate much more quickly than .40 (a year's expected growth).
