What is NEASC?
The NEASC Accreditation Team will be visiting SHS on December 9-11th. The team will meet with all school stakeholders including teachers, staff, students, parents, and central office members.
We are excited to showcase our amazing school community and all of the great things that we have accomplished!
The primary goal of the NEASC public school accreditation process is to provide support and opportunities to develop realistic improvement and growth plans to enhance teaching and learning in order to maintain a quality education for the entire student population.

Scituate Calendar
From Commissioner Infante-Green - SHS Ranks Among Lowest Chronically Absent!
Combating Chronic Absenteeism - One Calendar Day at a Time
As we continue our statewide effort to combat chronic absenteeism and improve student achievement, RIDE is excited to introduce new initiatives to support school and district leaders, families and the wider community. Thanks to support from the Papitto Opportunity Connection, we have begun distributing more than 140,000 magnetic calendars to Rhode Island school districts to help students and families stay on track with daily school attendance. We’ve also launched a free, comprehensive professional learning course titled “Preventing Chronic Absenteeism” that uses research and data to support attendance teams and school and district leaders in addressing chronic absenteeism.
Chronic absenteeism in Rhode Island is defined as missing 10% of the school year, or about two days per month. Attendance is a powerful predictor of student academic success and requires support from the entire community. With the new magnetic calendars and professional development course, along with new attendance and achievement data dashboards and mental health efforts, Rhode Island is demonstrating its unwavering commitment to mitigate chronic absenteeism among students and educators. I encourage all schools and districts to take advantage of all of our resources to continue spreading the important message that #AttendanceMattersRI.
In partnership,

FAFSA Now Open!
FAFSA is OPEN!
The U.S. Department of Education has released the 2025-26 FAFSA form – 10 days in advance of the agency’s stated goal of December 1. The online FAFSA form is available to all students and families at FAFSA.gov, and the Department is processing submissions and sending them to schools. You can find their announcement here. Students who are planning for life after high school during the 2025-2026 school year are highly encouraged to fill out the form. It is critical to ensure that all students are completing their FAFSA to have a chance at financial support for their postsecondary education plans. Completing the FAFSA is a gateway for not only federal financial aid, but also grants, scholarships, and work-study.
Students and contributors (parents and guardians) will need to create an FSA ID/StudentAid ID prior to filling out the application. The FSA ID is a username and password combination used to log in to the U.S. Department of Education online systems and is used every year when filling out the FAFSA.
Share out this fillable FSA ID/Studentaid.gov account creation guide and worksheet with your students/families
To help communicate the importance of FAFSA, RIDE has created monthly messages for you to share with students and families (including necessary links and directions).
Please refer to the message document here and use the messages each month to keep students and their families informed.
The College Planning Center is a great resource to support FAFSA/FSA ID completion. They also provide a School Counselor Toolkit for the FAFSA check it out here! Look for updates to the FAFSA Dashboard soon!
College Corner! Updated 12/8/24
Congratulations to the following students on their college acceptances last week!
Elizabeth Schmeling: Bethany Lutheran College
Abigail Schmeling: Concordia University
The 2025-2026 FAFSA is open!
Parents and students each need to create a user ID to complete the FAFSA. Visit www.studentaid.gov for more information and to apply for financial aid.
CSS Profile is open!
Students should login to collegeboard to complete the CSS Profile for any schools they are applying to that require it. The CSS Profile allows students to be considered for institutional grants not available through the FAFSA. Many, but NOT all schools require students to complete the CSS Profile.
Only 2 weeks until the holiday break!
Students with January 1 deadlines should be communicating with their counselors before break, if they need assistance with those applications!
