MUSD Health Services
Health is essential to optimal learning; MUSD Health Services Staff provide support and services to manage students with illnesses and accidents that occur during the school day. Licensed nurses and health assistants strive to ensure all students achieve their potential in school, career and life by unifying students, staff, and curriculum and community in a safe, supportive, challenging, empowering and innovative learning environment.
When meeting the student's health needs during the school day, health office staff also use the opportunity to teach students to make healthy choices that will be beneficial to their future health.
- Students are not allowed to possess prescription drugs or over-the-counter medication, including cough drops, while on school grounds during school hours and activities without written orders from the prescribing physician and written permission from parent/guardian. Please contact the Health Office for more information or to obtain the necessary forms.
- Children with a fever (100.4 or greater) must stay home for at least 24 hours after the fever subsides without the aid of any medication. A child with vomiting or diarrhea must also be symptom-free without the use of any medications for a 24-hour period before returning to school.
Visit the MUSD Health Corner for information about diseases, injuries, and illnesses affecting your child's growth, learning, and daily attendance.
Nutrition
MUSD’s food service program complies with the federal and state nutrition guidelines that require the use of products that are high in fiber, low in added fats, sugar and sodium, consistent with calorie requirements and served in appropriate portion size, consistent with USDA standards.
- No outside food items (ie. fast food) are allowed during breakfast and lunch times.
- Student snacks and lunches brought from home should contain a healthy balance of nutritious foods. Students should not bring soda, gum, or candy for snacks/lunch.
