Sr. High Drama - Newsies Performance June 5-8
Newsies, the Broadway Musical, is coming to town!! The Bashaw Sr. Drama class is presenting Newsies on June 5-8 at the Bashaw United Church.
Newsies is based on a true event that happened in New York City at the turn of the century that changed the lives of working children. The play highlights the power of standing together to create change against all odds!
In this musical, homeless newsboy Jack Kelly befriends two newcomers to his trade, brothers David and Les Jacobs. When publisher Joseph Pulitzer sets new rules that make it harder for the young newsboys and girls to make a buck, the kids go on strike. The result is an epic movement that is shared with energetic songs, dance and heartfelt characters. This is all portrayed by our amazing drama students who have created choreography, memorable characters and so much energy!!
Be sure to get your tickets to come out for an experience you won’t forget!

GENERAL NEWS & INFORMATION
POWER OF GIRLS EVENT: April 12
On April 12th, from 10am-3pm, we will be hosting our second Power of Girls. For those of you who haven’t heard of it before, it is all about empowering our girls to be the best version of themselves. We held one a few years ago and it was a great day (even though there was a blizzard!). We had sessions for the girls to choose from including: making an essential oil roll on, self-defence class, Zumba and dance class, photographer, group painting (which is still hanging on our wall), service and emotional support dogs, Questions with Mandy, and meditation to wind up our day. We had awesome volunteers who made and served the girls a wonderful lunch. The girls also left with a gift bag of goodies. Our goal for this day is for them to leave feeling like they are empowered and have some tools they can use going forward.
This event is FREE and both food and drinks will be provided.
We are looking for volunteers to support in sessions and serving lunch We are also looking for monetary donations for lanyards, gift bags, and lunch, as we don’t have a budget for the day. Anyone that would be interested in partaking in our day, please reach out.
We are so excited to announce that we currently have Crissy Croteau Photography, Mai Tai/Kickboxing with Spencer, Cindy’s She Shed, Finding the Joy with Janine, The Power of Self-Talk with Alida, Makeup Bags with Dakota, Dog Therapy with Jordyn, Painting with Krista & Lori and Pelican Cove Skincare.
Life as a young lady can be difficult at times. Our other goal is to make sure that they know they are not alone. We have many strong women in our community that have faced adversity and come out on top and thrived. They are such great models for our girls. These ladies are involved in our community and support it in being safe and caring. We are fortunate enough to have some of them join us for the day. The more we support each other the easier life can be!
