Principal Nolan's Notes
October 30, 2024
Hello, Whip-Pur Families!
Our 2nd quarter is off to a fantastic start with many opportunities for connections on the horizon. HES students are looking forward to shopping with their hard-earned PAWS cards next Friday. The HES Staff has created an amazing list of fun experiences for students to purchase with PAWS cards. These are special opportunities to connect with other adults in the building and celebrate PAWS behavior at school. A huge thank you to our staff for making this possible for our students.
The opportunity for you to connect with your child's teacher at Parent-Teacher conference is quickly approaching. More detailed information about Parent-Teacher Conferences will come in a separate message later this evening.
Halloween Parade Updates and News
Grand marshal, Fire Chief Herrmann
We have an exciting update regarding our Halloween community parade. I'm proud to announce that Chief Herrmann, of the Hampshire Fire Department, will serve as the grand marshal of the HES Halloween parade. He will retire after 35 years of service to the Hampshire community so we are honored to have him as our grand marshal this year.
The weather forecast indicates there is a chance of rain during the time of our Halloween community parade. In the case of rain, we will not take students outside for our parade, but instead will parade INSIDE the building allowing all students to see everyone else's costumes. We will not be able to accommodate all parents being present in the building for this parade. I understand this is disappointing but with the potential high number of people that the office staff would need to "Raptor" into the building for security, it is not something we can accommodate.
For now, we plan to proceed with our parade as scheduled. If the decision is made to cancel the outdoor parade, I will communicate by 8:30 tomorrow morning. Thank you for your understanding.
PBIS Update
We are grateful for our parent connection and support of our students and staff at HES. We need your help! Students will shop for staff experiences with their hard-earned PAWS cards on Friday, 11/8 and we need parents to help. Please click here to come on 11/8 to help with the PAWS store.
Staff experiences will happen on Thursday, 11/14 and Friday, 11/15. We are also looking for some PAW-SOME parents that would like to be part of our HES staff experiences days. You have the opportunity to play a game, do a craft, paint nails, or facilitate any other different ideas on Thursday, 11/14 from 8:10-9:10 and Friday, 11/15 from 8:10-10:30. If you are interested or have questions please email Michelle Bannerman michelle.bannerman@d300.org.
Book Fair
HES will host the Scholastic Book Fair during the week of November 18-22. Mrs. Enders has scheduled each class to have a "Preview Day" in which students are able to look at the available books, posters, and other items in order to make a wish list. Each classroom will also sign up for a "Purchase Time Slot" to provide time for students to make purchases with money put into their 'ewallet'.

There will be coffee provided in the cafeteria. Guests joining a student for breakfast will then have the opportunity to visit the Book Fair starting at 7:30 AM to make purchases. Students and families will not be able to go into classrooms early.
Veterans Day
HES will celebrate Veterans Day on Monday, 11/11. Family members of HES students, who are Veterans, are invited to participate in a reception and celebration with us. The schedule of events is as follows:
- Reception in Multi-Purpose Room - 8:30 AM

We are also in need of volunteers for this special event. Please look at the details on this form and let us know if your Veteran can attend or if you are interested in volunteering!
Parent/Guardian Needs Assessment
Mrs. DiSanti & Mrs. Nickol are grateful for the families that have taken time to complete the Parent/Guardian Needs Assessment. It only takes a few minutes to complete and will remain open until Friday, Nov. 15th.
The needs assessment will help Mrs. DiSanti & Mrs. Nickol determine the resources and support that students and families may require. Information on the survey will remain confidential unless you choose to share your contact information at the end of the survey.
