Emerson Update 04/04/25
EMERSON MIDDLE SCHOOL MISSION
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE 04/04/25
Dear Emerson families,
On Tuesday, we had the distinct honor of inducting our newest members into the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). It was a truly inspiring ceremony recognizing these students and their commitment to the five pillars of NJHS: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Citizenship, and Character.
These pillars are incredibly important for our middle school students as they help shape well-rounded individuals. Scholarship encourages academic excellence and a love of learning. Leadership fosters the ability to guide and inspire others, building confidence and teamwork skills. Service instills the value of giving back to the community and making a positive impact. Citizenship promotes an understanding of civic responsibility and respect for the rights of others. Finally, Character emphasizes integrity, honesty, and ethical behavior, forming a strong moral compass. We are so proud of these students for embracing these vital principles.
On Thursday, our dedicated teachers engaged in valuable professional development, taking a deep dive into the results of the 3rd marking period common summative assessments. This crucial work allows them to analyze student progress and fine-tune their instruction for the final marking period, ensuring all our students continue to grow and succeed.
Our track season is also in full swing, and we are eagerly anticipating our first meet! We hope the warmer weather continues so our athletes can fully enjoy their practices and competitions.
Finally, a reminder to our 8th-grade families that next Wednesday is the PSAT test, specifically for our 8th-grade students. The PSAT is a valuable, measurable test that provides students with early exposure to the format and types of questions they will encounter on the SAT in high school. It also offers insights into their strengths and areas for growth, helping them prepare for their future academic endeavors.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support of Emerson Middle School and our students.
With Eagle Pride,
Bruce Rivera

Cell Phone Policy Reminders
Dear Parents,
We are writing to clarify the school's policy regarding cell phone and earbud use during the school day. To maintain a focused learning environment, we are strictly enforcing the following:
- No cell phone use is permitted during school hours: AWAY FOR THE DAY.
- No earbuds or headphones are allowed, including wearing them around the neck.
- (Exceptions are made for a few students with documented medical or anxiety needs.)
In the Classroom: (AWAY FOR THE DAY)
- Teachers will remind students of the policy at the beginning of each class.
- If a student uses a device, it will be stored securely until the end of the hour.
- If a student refuses to hand over their device, administration will be called to confiscate it.
During Lunch and in the Hallways: (AWAY FOR THE DAY)
- Administration will confiscate any cell phones or earbuds seen during lunch.
- Administration will also monitor and confiscate devices in the hallways during passing periods.
- Teachers are asked to remind students of the rules in the hallways, but not to confiscate the items themselves.
We appreciate your support in helping us create a distraction-free learning environment for all students.

A few key things to note:
The Livonia Parent Advisory Committee (LPAC) seeks parent representation from each Livonia Special Education Program. Parent representative volunteers have a child/children with a disability(ies). The LPAC also provides advisory input on matters regarding improvement of Special Education services within our school district.
Our Facebook page shares information of interest to our families and students.
Here, you will find electronic flyers for programs and events geared toward kids!
We hope that you enjoy the many offerings from around our great community!
If you have a program that you'd like to advertise, please email your flyer to Stacy Jenkins at sjenkins3@livoniapublicschools.org for approval. We follow a set of guidelines for approval and are only able to accept flyers for non-profit organizations that benefit our local children.
Enjoy!
Emerson Clubs
Emerson Middle School has several clubs where students can connect with their peers, learn a new skill, or simply hang out with friends. We've had a volleyball club, robotics club, GSA club, walking club, Pokemon club and homework club. We would love to offer something for everyone! Our club list is always growing, and we're always open to new ideas. If your student has a dream club in mind or if you'd like to be an awesome advisor, let us know! Joining a club is a great way to make new friends, learn new skills, and have a blast!
