Attention Sixth Grade Parents:
This letter is to inform you of the immunization requirements for students entering the 7th grade in the state of Ohio. All seventh-grade students will be required to have one additional dose of Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis), as a booster to the initial series of required doses. Ohio is requiring the Tdap vaccine, as opposed to Td, to protect against Pertussis (whooping cough). In addition to the Tdap, your child is also required to receive the Meningococcal vaccine prior to the entry into Grade 7. The Meningococcal vaccine prevents bacteria that is commonly spread from person to person, especially in teens and young adults. These bacteria can cause meningitis, which is an infection of the fluid and lining surrounding the brain and spinal cord; it can also enter the bloodstream, causing sepsis. Please contact your health care provider to schedule an appointment to receive the vaccines your child will need for the next year. For a complete list of immunization requirements for school-age children in the State of Ohio, please go to:
www.odh.ohio.gov/odhPrograms/dis/Immunization/imunchsc.aspx
REQUIRED 7th Grade shots (2 shots):
· Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis)
· Meningococcal vaccine

SHOT CLINICS
Akron Children's Hospital School-Based Health Center is partnering with the Field Local School District to provide a shot clinic for middle school students during the week of September 23. They will be offering school-required vaccines for students in grades 6/7 on September 24 and flu vaccines for students in grades 6-8 on November 6. Forms were sent home with your student or a consent form is also available below. If you would like for your child to receive the influenza vaccine on November 6, please return the signed form as soon as possible. Please note that only students with consent forms completed by a parent/guardian can receive vaccinations. Thank you.
Attendance Matters!
Student attendance is counted every day they are present in school. When a student arrives late (after 7:55 a.m.) or leaves early (before 2:45 p.m.) every minute they miss of school is counted and reported to the Ohio Department of Education. We strongly urge parents to schedule appointments and vacations when school is not in session. Partial day absences for doctor and dental appointments require a note from the medical professional within 24 hours to be excused. Please work with us to have your child present and on time every day. They are building habits for future school and work. And, when students misses school or comes in late they miss important information that puts them behind their classmates and adds stress to their lives when they have to catch up. Did you know.... When a student misses 2 days per month, they will miss 20 days in a school year? That is about 1,600 minutes of math and English and 800 minutes of science, social studies, and encore classes a year. If this trend continues, by the time the student graduates high school, he/she would miss over 1 year of school! Attendance matters! Additionally, schools are required to meet with parents of students who are excessively and habitually absent. If these absences are not corrected, the parent may have to appear in court related to truancy. Just one 5-day absence (maybe for a vacation) will trigger the first threshold with the State.
S.O.A.R.-ing Safely
Each quarter, students at FMS will have the opportunity to participate in an incentive activity of their choosing. To qualify for this incentive, students must meet the behavior expectations set forth by the school’s PBIS team. This quarter, students will focus on maintaining school safety. During Falcon Period, students will learn about the importance of maintaining safety standards and understand how to properly conduct themselves in a manner that maintains these standards. At the end of the quarter, students who have successfully demonstrated safe behavior will take part in an incentive activity. We hope this opportunity will provide students with the skills they need to promote a happy and healthy school environment.
Substitutes Needed
We are now hiring classified substitute workers for various roles, including Playground Monitors, Educational Aides, Cafeteria Workers, Secretarial Staff, Custodial Staff, Bus Aides, and Bus Drivers. A current BCI & FBI background check is required before applying for any substitute position. Some positions may also require an aide permit, which the Administration Office can help you obtain. You have the flexibility to work the hours that suit you, and you'll be on call to cover for regular employees. For more details or assistance with the application process, please contact Bev Bable at the Administration Office-beverly.bable@fieldlocalschools.org.
