Weekly Update
Weekly Update for the Week of September 23, 2024
Top 5 things to know for the week ahead
1. Special Guest Speaker for SMCPS!
On October 10, 2024, Frank Kros will present, ‘A New View of ADHD for Parents: What Works, What Doesn’t, and Why’ from 6 pm- 8 pm at the Forrest Career & Technology Center, Dohrman A. The workshop is free but registration is required via email to parnersforsucess@smcps.org
2. Student and Family Guide FOCUS
This week's focus is on "Where's the WORK?"
This year, the Virtual Academy is using Edgenuity as a "textbook" for online learning. However, Schoology is the main hub. All students need to look at Schoology first and foremost for what they are expected to do each day/week.
As noted in our Student and Family Guide.
Schoology
All Virtual Academy students have their classes loaded into Schoology. Schoology is the one stop shop for:
Teacher Communication
Announcements
Folder labeled by Week/day with student work
Class Expectations
GRADES - Edgenuity grades are important, however, it is up to each teacher to determine which Edgenuity grade moves over to Schoology where the final report card grades are reported. Please check Schoology for missing assignment.
3. Picture Day (UPDATED for this week)
We've had a few inquiries about picture days at the home high school in order to get an ID card.
CHS students - Contact Ms. Hooven for details on picture day on October 15th. Virtual students will be able to come in on October 15 to get their photos completed. The photographers will be here from 8:00 a.m.-2:45 p.m. Students can come in during that time frame. Please be sure to check in with the front office and then head to the auditorium. Please feel free to reach out to Ms. Hooven with any questions.
GMHS students - Contact Ms. Cox for details. Virtual Students come in to take pictures during school hours on 10/1. Ms. Cox will be leaving a list of virtual students in the office. Students will need to check in before coming to the auditorium. Photographers will be taking their lunch break during one lunch, from 12:05 to 1:05 and will not be available to photograph during that time .Please be prepared to wait a few minutes, not to exceed 10-15 minutes when they come for pictures.
LHS students can learn more about their picture day at this Google Site and contact Ms. Page for additional information
4. Digital Citizenship Week is October 14th-18th
