NSCSD Superintendent Updates

June 17, 2025
Happy Summer Break!
With the school year officially wrapped up on June 4th, we're now in the full swing of summer! On behalf of our entire district, I want to extend a warm welcome to this season of relaxation, rejuvenation, and making lasting memories. This will be our only formal newsletter until August, so we want to make sure we share some exciting news and important updates.
We're incredibly proud of our student-athletes who excelled in baseball, softball, tennis, and golf this spring, demonstrating tremendous dedication and sportsmanship. Beyond the fields and courts, we celebrate outstanding achievements in the arts.
We understand you're eager for information about the upcoming school year. Please know that we're working diligently to finalize details and will communicate updates as soon as they're available. Expect our next district-wide newsletter to arrive on August 19th. Until then, have a wonderful and safe summer!

Lancer Lookout with SRO Jahns
LANCER LOOKOUT -As summer approaches, excitement builds, but so does the risk on the roads. Did you know that teens are more likely to be involved in crashes during the summer months? Before you grab the keys, make sure you're following Iowa traffic laws and making smart choices behind the wheel.
1. Hands Off the Phone
Texting while driving is illegal in Iowa for everyone.
If you're under 18, ALL cellphone use is prohibited, even hands-free.
Think About It: A text can wait—your life can't.
2. Zero Tolerance for Drinking & Driving
Iowa law says anyone under 21 caught with a BAC of 0.02% or higher will lose their license.
Even one drink can affect your ability to drive—and your future.
The Bottom Line: Never drink and drive. Ever.
3. Know Your License Limits
If you’re on a school permit or intermediate license, remember:
No driving between 12:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. unless it’s for work or school (with proof).
Limit your passengers: only 1 unrelated minor for the first 6 months.
Play by the Rules: They're there to protect you and others on the road.
4. Buckle Up—It’s the Law
Iowa requires seat belts for all drivers and front-seat passengers.
Everyone under 18 must buckle up, no matter where they're sitting.
Safety First: Make buckling up your first move—every time.
5. Stay Alert: Watch for Others
Summer means more people walking, biking, and riding motorcycles. Stay focused and give others space.
Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.
Give bikes and motorcycles plenty of room when passing.
This is Officer Jahns asking you to have fun this summer, but don’t let a poor driving decision ruin your plans—or someone else’s life.
Drive smart. Drive safe. Drive sober.
