MST Weekly Update
October 4, 2024

Good afternoon to all of our MST family members.
Welcome to October! We are now halfway through the first quarter of the school year. Field trips are in full swing giving our students an opportunity to visit local businesses related to their potential career choices as well as colleges for future education.
Our annual Open House is this coming Thursday. This is an opportunity to visit your child's classes to find out what they are working on during the day. You are welcome to bring your child so that they can help you to find the classrooms easily.
With the cooler weather coming, we now have staff members in the building to let students enter at 7:00 AM. Breakfast is available in the lunchroom every morning.
Open House
MST will be holding an Open House on this coming Thursday, October 10th, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. This is an opportunity to visit the classes that you child attends and hear about the classes from their teachers. This will not be a time to discuss individual student progress, but each teacher will have a sign-up sheet if you would like for them to contact you regarding any concerns that you have about your child's progress.
At 6:15 PM, there will be a brief meeting in the Brennan Center for parents of 9th grade students. Information will be provided about upcoming first quarters report cards and how to interpret what they say. Time will also be allowed for any questions that you may have.
We hope to see you all on Thursday night.
ACE Mentoring Program
Students will visit professional offices, job sites and other relevant locations. They will discuss the same issues, and perform the same tasks, as if they worked in the industry. ACE gives students a practical hands-on view of how abstract concepts get transformed into the buildings that make up our everyday reality.
The group will be meeting every Thursday from 2:30-4:00 starting October 17th through the end of February. Students were all sent information through their email as well as this Sign-Up Form. If your child is interested taking advantage of this great opportunity, please have them submit the form by next Thursday, 10/10.

A Look Into My Future
This week our Criminal Justice Class began designing their educational and career goals. The project was research based and gave our students the opportunity to see the organization, hard work and planning that must be achieved in order to achieve these goals. Presentations were fun as well as informative!!
Construction Days 2024
On Thursday 9/26 and Friday 9/27, students from the several CTE classes and NHJAG students attended Career Construction Days in New Boston, NH. They explored many opportunities in an array of transportation and construction fields. Many participated in hands on learning opportunities and were provided education resources to enhance their understanding within various fields.
Wear Pink Wednesdays!
The MST Cosmetology SkillsUSA chapter will be honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month for October with their campaign “On Wednesdays we wear pink” Stop by the E wing to see their display with information on Breast Cancer Awareness. Join the movement by wearing pink every Wednesday for the month of October.
Attendance Matters
The Manchester School District will continue to focus on improving student attendance across the district because many of our students are chronically absent. Missing 10%, or two days a month of school, is considered chronically absent and can significantly impact a child’s learning, social development and take them off track for developing good attendance habits critical to success in school.
Missing just two days per month can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by third grade. By sixth grade, chronic absenteeism becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school. Excessive excused absences also cause tremendous learning loss and we must all work together to keep them to a minimum.
Your child's attendance matters and here’s how you can help:
We are working hard to make sure school is a safe and healthy environment. Please read the handbook for the attendance policy and talk to the school nurse to review health information to determine what is too sick to send your student to school.
Please schedule vacations and appointments on non-school days or after school hours. Vacations are unexcused absences.
To make sure your student benefits as much as possible, your student needs to show up to school everyday. Going to school is an opportunity for your student to:
Build routines that help reduce stress.
Make new friends or reconnect with their friends and teachers.
Engage in learning.
Gain access to meals, health care and fun activities.
If your child is absent from school, please send a note to school when they return, or write an email in order to excuse the absence. The phone call to school DOES NOT excuse the absence.
We are here to help! If a problem emerges with health, food, transportation, housing, or anything else, please call your student’s school.
