Sixth graders are learning all about the mighty Mayan Empire and all of their remarkable achievements. Students will be building temples, performing a reader’s theater and flexing their creativity in their narrative writing about a day in the life of a Mayan. Additionally, students are creating and presenting their amusement park proposals as part of our cross-curricular physics collaboration with Science.
Seventh graders are splitting their time between completing their Egyptian cross-curricular unit and our personal finance lessons with Junior Achievement Park Financial lessons and simulation. I am looking forward to students having the opportunity to simulate financial decisions that they will make as adults. I believe analyzing these details will be impactful for years to come. Students are making text-to-text connections with their ELA readings and SS Egyptian primary and secondary sources. They are enjoying the creative arts and doing a great job of making connections to the modern world.
Eighth graders are splitting their time between completing their American Revolution unit and our personal finance lessons with Junior Achievement Park Financial lessons and simulation. I am looking forward to students having the opportunity to simulate financial decisions that they will make as adults. I believe analyzing these details will be impactful for years to come. We are excited to move forward in history after the break. I am looking forward to our Passion Project presentations and seeing what hopes and dreams are students have for their futures.
GMP Science - Mrs. Castillo
6th Grade: Students are experimenting with kinetic and potential energy! They worked so hard in their marble lab, tying in lots of math and ELA for their lab write-ups! They are now designing their own roller coasters for our cross-curricular theme.
7th grade: Students are learning about the Geologic Processes of Earth. They experimented with weathering, erosion, and deposition and modeled how that looks with different types of Earth's surfaces. They will soon begin learning about Earth's plate tectonics and continental drift.
8th Grade: Students finished learning about synthetic materials in chemistry and both the importance and repercussions of mishandling these materials. They will begin learning about cells and heredity next.
