Hawks - please be sure you LOCK UP your scooters and bikes at school and at home. We have heard reports of missing bikes, scooters and trikes at school and in the neighborhood. Most of these thefts are older kids grabbing an unlocked bike or scooter, riding it down a block or two and then dropping it. You can avoid this by locking it up! Combination cable locks are available for less than $10 and that's a lot cheaper than a new bike!

We will have our annual "FALL FESTIVAL" on Thursday, October 17 from 4:30-6:30! This is a great opportunity to celebrate fall, wear your costumes (if you want to), play fun games and enjoy time with our school family! We will need volunteers to help run games, so we will be sending out a "sign up genius link next week.

No school for students on Thursday and Friday next week. Teachers have those days to do Professional Development.

We sent our first few attendance letters this week. You will receive one if your student already has 5 or more absences already this trimester. Please be sure your review our attendance policy below. Remember - attendance has a huge impact on your student's learning!

Hawk Families - WE ALL NEED TO WORK TOGETHER on ATTENDANCE! Please read the D91 Attendance Policy below and take a good look at the ATTENDANCE graphic. The impact of attendance is HUGE! (This information is also found in our Hawthorne Parent & Student Handbook.)

We still need to fill a couple of positions at Hawthorne. All of our jobs can be found at www.ifschools.org under the "join our team" button. We are looking for:

• School Lunch help - 10:15-1:30, Monday-Friday. The position is listed as "Satellite Server - Part Time - Hawthorne".
• "In-House" substitute teacher - this position would substitute teachers for teachers or aides when they are sick. You apply under the "district-wide" sub application and then select Hawthorne. If you are interested in this one, please call Mr. Morgan so he can help you with the process.

We would love to have some volunteers come into classrooms and work with students on reading skills (phonics) and math skills. Just a few minutes a week can make a big difference! If you are interested in volunteering (or if you have a grandparent who would like to volunteer) please contact the office.

Tues. 11/5 ELECTION DAY - ONLINE/AT HOME LEARNING DAY for students

Last year we applied to participate in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FF&V). This means that every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, students in 1st-6th grade will receive an extra healthy snack to eat sometime during the day. This week we had, carrots, pomegranates and plums - they were delicious!
