Eagle Excellence Volume #21
Vivian Banks Charter School: Mar. 3-7, 2025
Attendance and Chronic Absenteeism Update
Attendance this past week was 96.62% which is up significantly from 94.65% and 92.68% the previous two weeks. This is our strongest week of attendance since the week of November 4-8!
Huge shout-out to the A-Team aka Ms. Amerson and her 4th grade class; they are the February attendance class competition champions with a monthlong attendance rate of 97.6%! All five VBCS classes had average monthly attendance rates at or above 92%! Way to go Eagles!
After 117 school days, cumulative attendance is up another tick to 93.46% from 93.32% and 93.26% the previous two weeks, and the cumulative Chronic Absenteeism rate (10% or more of cumulative school days missed) has started to drop from the year high of 31% to a current rate of 25.4%.
Thank you for all that you do in support of VBCS and student attendance. I look forward to seeing all of our awesome students tomorrow.
Weekly Message from Mr. Costa
Dear Eagle Community,
Welcome to March! We are kicking off this fun month with a week full of amazing VBCS activities.
- Read Across America Week will bring literary celebration to VBCS!
- Spirit Week will be highlighted by Friday and Dress-Like-Your-Favorite-Book-Character!
- Two field trips!
- Spring Portraits on Wednesday 3/5!
- Lunch on the Lawn this Friday 3/7!
On Saturday, March 8 we will host a very special and unique community event: the grand opening and ribbon-cutting of the Pala Community Garden! Our vision for the garden is simple; we desire to create a vibrant usable space for the entire community in which to grow and harvest fresh food. We look forward to welcoming the entire community out to the garden to visit, share food (I will be on the grill!), till the ground, build some raised garden beds, and to be part of the grassroots movement of a community working together to benefit one another! Please plan to join us on Saturday 3/8 from 8AM-12PM. Everyone is invited!
As always, if you have any questions, comments, ideas, or would like to say hello in person, please feel free to email me at daniel.costa@bonsallusd.com. I look forward to meeting and working with each of you to support the amazing students of Vivian Banks Charter School. Have a wonderful week!
P.S. Please visit our Instagram @vivianbankscharterschool for wonderful pictures and videos of school events!
Go Eagles,
