Taylor's Message

Juniors at both PNHS and PSHS were able to attend Taylor's Message on Wednesday May 8th. This presentation addressed the impact of current party culture and poor choices. Kathi Sullivan shared her daughter Taylor's story, who passed away in 2008 as a result of an alcohol-related incident. In addition, former NFL star Chris Sullivan shared his battle with anxiety, depression, and addiction as well as hope for recovery.

Art Week MA

Plymouth Students Stop the Bleed

In early April, students enrolled in the Biomedical Program’s Human Body Systems class were trained on how to control bleeding. This training, one of the first in the country for high school students, was provided through a partnership with Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the nationally recognized program, Stop the Bleed. Spearheading the effort to establish this partnership was Mrs. Heywood, a member of our School Committee.

Students participated in a presentation of information about bleeding to kickoff the training. The presentation was provided by Dr. Reza Askari, the Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and Associate Trauma Director at Brigham and Women’s. Following this portion of the training, students transitioned into hands-on instruction led by Dr. Eric Goralnick, Medical Director of Emergency Preparedness at Brigham and Women’s. In addition, providing hands-on training were nurses from Brigham and Women’s, as well as from the Plymouth Public Schools.

This training provided Plymouth students with knowledge and practice in providing life-saving measures to control bleeding, thus making them more prepared in emergency situations. As Dr. Askari reminded students, emergencies can happen anywhere and at any time. Providing this opportunity to students who already have a vested interest in biomedical sciences is just one piece in a very comprehensive curriculum.

In addition, it was important to the Plymouth Public Schools and Brigham and Women’s Hospital that this skill set be brought to the attention of others. Together, this work got the attention of CBS news and as a result, this story was produced (bit.ly/plymouth2019stb).

As we celebrate National Nurses’ Week, we want to give a special thanks to the nurses involved in this training, as well as Mrs. Heywood, who is also a trauma nurse at the Brigham.

Help Raise Money for Students Visiting Japan

Paint Night June 5th at Cabby Shack

Parents of the student ambassadors headed to Japan this summer have organized a fundraiser to help offset the cost of the trip. Paint Night will be held at Cabby Shack on June 5th at 6:30 PM. The item is a serving tray and the host (MIY Studios) assures us everyone can do this well, as stencils and materials needed are provided and included in the price. We hope to see you all there. Writing Across Content Areas

Students in Ms. Donovan’s second-grade class have been practicing writing across content areas, as part of their Lab Reports and Science Writing Unit. They first tested pushing matchbox cars down a ramp on carpeted vs. tile surfaces and compared distances. Then in a follow-up lesson, they picked other items to see what would happen if they sent them down a ramp. The items tested included things like cars, glue sticks, unifix cubes, and counting bears. They took notes and used their notes to create “lab reports.”

Federal Furnace Plays

Last Thursday, some of our budding actors in fourth and fifth grade entertained students during the day, and families at night, with a pair of plays. They brought the True Story of the Three Little Pigs and Rumplestiltskin to life under the direction of Music teacher, Mr. Nardone. Art teacher, Mrs. Wynott, assisted with costumes and scenery. Great job to all involved, we look forward to more productions in the future!

Battle of the Books

Hedge School held its 2nd annual Battle of the Books. 7 Teams consisting of students in grades 3-5 "battled" in a Family Feud-style game to answer questions based on 10 Books. The entire school community and family cheered the group on as their text knowledge was tested! Team 5 Amigos was the winner!

Run 4 Michelle

This Sunday Indian Brook Families and friends celebrating an amazing woman by running the first annual Run 4 Michelle. The goal of the event was to establish a Scholarship Fund for children to attend Camp Bournedale. The Lachance family made sure to share exciting experiences throughout Michelle's long battle with lung cancer. Creating opportuneness for children to be active is a great way to celebrate Michelle's life.


Race day events included:

  • Pizza and light refreshments were provided by Camp Bournedale following the race
  • ClayChick was on-site 9:30 am – 11:00 am to do make and take pottery
  • Art on the Spot was on-site providing face painting
  • A raffle and silent auction table was made available by many generous businesses


Indian Brook staff walked and ran in fact, teacher Steve Garner won the race and VP Courtney Triffleti finished second for the women.
It was by all accounts a day for the Indian Brook School families to remember.

MES EdTV Program Rolling Along

It's a busy time of year for the MES EdTV students. They have worked hard to learn many new skills pertaining to video production, and now they are working to put it all together to create finished pieces of work!

Visitors from Plimoth Plantation

The third graders at Nathaniel Morton had special visitors from Plimoth Plantation this week. John Alden brought us back to the 1620s, and shared with us what life was like for the Pilgrims. We also had a chance to learn about the life of the Wampanoags, both in the 17th century and today. The students loved hearing their stories and seeing reproductions of artifacts.

3rd Grade Math Fact Power Strategy Session

Students in third grade came up with lesson plans to teach their parents the new math strategies that we do in 3rd grade!

The Learning Continues with After School Clubs at PCIS!

PCIS students get to enjoy a variety of clubs that enhance their learning experience. This week we have students participating in Ukulele Club, Gardening Club, and Babysitters Club.

Back to Nature

Mrs. Fitzgerald's F period civics class met with students from Mrs. Rose's, Mrs. Repucci's, and Mr. Hoey's classes at the raised garden beds in front of PSMS. Their goal for the day was to rid the beds of all weeds and to make sure there were some worms in every bed. Under the guidance of a representative from Terra Cura, the beds were raked smooth by the end of the period and are now ready for planting.

Play Ball!

Under sunny skies, Coach Sullivan led her PSMS softball team in a game against league rival Middleboro. After warming up, her team fielded, pitched, and hit their way through seven innings. These young athletes have five games left in their season; check the PSMS website for their schedule.

Environmental Science

Environmental science students learn firsthand about the importance of local foods and the positive impact this has on the environment. Jacqui Millar from the nonprofit Terra Cura was our guest speaker. Students help plant the gardens in front of Plymouth North.

Phys. Ed.

Plymouth North P.E classes just completed their Social Dance Unit. The Unit focused on Swing Dance, Salsa, and The Merengue. Students learned about the history of the dances, the basic steps and hold as well as turns, dips, and spins. Students did a wonderful job with this unique unit. They are ready to show off their moves at prom and dinner dance.

Project Lead the Way

Students from Project Lead The Way classes at Plymouth South High School were featured at the second annual Mass STEM Hub High School Showcase and STEM Signing Day, which took place on May 2nd at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
Over 300 students from schools across Massachusetts – including Plymouth - showcased their STEM projects to industry professionals to discuss their work and receive authentic feedback.
