A Message from Mrs. Stauffer
As we conclude 2024, and break for the winter holiday, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to all who help make Rainbow Elementary School amazing. We are a community with many gifts and talents, which we share daily with one another and most important, our students. From school to home, our collective efforts to raise the whole child are filled with passion, commitment and a willingness to make decisions that may be hard in the present, but will have a positive and lasting influence in the future for all.
Parents, of course, are such a critical part of all we hope to accomplish on behalf of our students. Thank you for entrusting us with your most precious gift. I am grateful to our wonderful, talented, creative, inquisitive, optimistic, resourceful and resilient students.
In the spirit of this holiday season, I want to extend my thanks to all of you for everything that you do for our school. As we enjoy the upcoming holidays, it is my fervent wish that each of you receives and returns the seasonal bounty of grace and good tidings that make these days truly special. We are looking forward to seeing everyone back in school on Thursday, January 2, 2025. Look for the first Monday Morning Message of 2025 on Monday, January 6th.
Happy Holidays!

Water Bottle Reminder
This is a friendly reminder to send a water bottle with your child to school each day. We encourage students to use our water bottle filling stations to stay hydrated throughout the day.
Please note that we do not provide cups for water, so having a labeled water bottle is essential. Labeling your child’s water bottle helps ensure it can be easily returned if misplaced.
Thank you for your support in helping us keep our students healthy and hydrated!
Cold Weather Recess Plan
Dear Families,
As the temperatures drop, we want to ensure that all students stay safe and comfortable while still enjoying outdoor recess whenever possible. To achieve this, we are implementing a Cold Weather Recess Plan based on temperature and wind chill guidelines.
Recess Guidelines:
- 28°F and above: Full outdoor recess as usual.
- 22°F to 27°F: Shortened outdoor recess (15 minutes).
- 21°F and below: Indoor recess only.
We encourage students to come to school dressed appropriately for winter weather, including a warm coat, hat, gloves, scarf, and boots. If your family needs assistance with winter gear, please reach out to [contact person/office name] at [phone/email].
Outdoor activity is important for students’ well-being, and this plan allows us to balance fresh air and safety during colder months. We appreciate your partnership in helping ensure your child is prepared for the weather.
If you have any questions about the Cold Weather Recess Plan, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for your continued support of our school community!
Volunteer and Field Trip Chaperone Information
Dear Rainbow Families,
As the school year is underway, I would like to inform you of the Coatesville Area School District school board approved policy No.916: Volunteers. The purpose of this policy is to recognize that volunteers can make valuable contributions to the school district. All schools within the district encourage the use of volunteers subject to the requirements of Applicable Law and this policy.
There are two distinct definitions within the policy regarding volunteers and helpers.
· Volunteer: an adult applying for or performing an unpaid position as a volunteer who is responsible for the welfare of a child or children or having direct contact with children. A volunteer may supervise students without the presence of a teacher or certified paraprofessional. Volunteers may undertake activities such as: field trip chaperones, tutoring students, and assisting before, during or after school activities.
· Helper: an adult who provides help or assistance in an event or function, but who does not meet the definition of a volunteer whereas the helper is not responsible for the welfare, care, supervision, guidance or control of a child or children independently of a teacher or certified paraprofessional. Helpers may undertake activities such as: class part, cafeteria help, material preparation, assisting a teacher in the classroom.
Adults who meet the definition of a volunteer under Applicable Law or under this policy shall be required to complete a registration/disclosure form and provide the following:
a) Act 34 State Police History Report
This clearance is free of charge to volunteers and can be found online at https://epatch.state.pa.us/Home.jsp
b) Act 151 Child Abuse Clearance Statement
This clearance is free of charge to volunteers and can be found online at https://www.compass.state.pa.us/cwis/public/home.
c) Act 114 FBI Background Check (not required if you have been a PA resident during the entirety of the previous 10 year period) Ø The cost of this clearance is $22.60 https://uenroll.identogo.com/workflows/1KG6XN
d) Tuberculosis Test
Helpers need only to have their photo identification scanned into our Navigate 360 Visitor Management upon entering the school building.
Kind Regards,
Mrs. Stauffer
