Counseling: Helping Students Thrive
This upcoming week is National School Counseling Week. The theme of this yearโs week is โSchool Counseling: Helping Students Thrive.โ
At SCMS, the school counselors are striving to help your student thrive. We define thriving as growing, succeeding, and feeling fulfilled in all areas of their lives. We focus on several areas including academic growth, emotional well-being, and career exploration.
- For example, thriving academically means setting goals, staying motivated, and finding joy in learning. We help students through motivation and organization small groups, guidance lessons on time management and study skills, and individual meetings on engagement.
- Thriving emotionally means feeling balanced, resilient, and supported. If students are feeling stressed or anxious, weโre here to listen and help them navigate their feelings. We do this with individual counseling sessions, peer mediation, and anxiety small groups.
- Thriving in the future means understanding your strengths and passions. We can help students explore different careers and plan for a future that excites them with classroom lessons and Naviance planning.
Please reach out to your school counselor if you believe your child would benefit from any of these!
