ARHS Theater
Congratulations to the cast and crew of theThe Crucible for their extraordinary performance this past weekend. We so often think of all the hours of preparation that the choirs and band need to perfect their performances, the daily grind of practices for athletic teams and our Scholar Bowl participants and yet somehow the amount of work the Theater company puts in each night until the play in November is not thought about! Well done EVERYONE involved- you once again made our community proud!

Veterans Day
This Monday November 11th, FLRSD will be closed as we honor Veterans Day. I am always concerned that the meaning of any significant day becomes lost as the years go by and just as importantly, I worry that we only recognize its importance one day a year rather than throughout the year.
I found this post as to why November 11th is so important and the meaning behind it. We as a society must never forget the risks and sacrifices our veterans made and continue to make for our country and give thanks not just on November 11th, but throughout the year. We must also pay tribute and give our thanks and support to the families of our veterans and those serving currently.
Ever wonder why Veterans day is on the 11th and does not change? WWI ended on the 11th month on the 11th day of the 11th hour. Today I saw a man selling poppies stop a lady and asked if he could re-position her poppy. While doing so he told that lady she should wear the poppy on the right side; the red represents the blood of all those who gave their lives, the black represents the mourning of those who didn't have their loved ones return home, and the green leaf represents the grass and crops growing and future prosperity after the war destroyed so much. The leaf should be positioned at 11o'clock to represent the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, the time that WWI formally ended. He was worried that younger generations wouldn't understand this and his generation wouldn't be around for much longer to teach them. We must remember those from our current wars too!
Thankfully our AES students, at their traditional Veterans day assembly, once again planted flags in front of the school and it continues to be a highlight of the year. Due to the work of Principal Pineault, the AES staff, and each of you, the AES students take such great pride in planting these flags in honor of our veterans as you can see in the picture below. We must always work to keep the significance of the sacrifices of our veterans, at the forefront of our thoughts.
A veteran was quoted as saying “It is unexplainable to know I was given an opportunity to serve and fight alongside so many who would have paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect this great country in selfless dedication to the pursuit of freedom and liberty. They were from all walks of life, every ethnicity, every race, every religion, but we all had one common bond, which was to defend our nation and to protect one another” unknown.
Our Faculty, Paraprofessionals, Assistant Principals, Secretaries, IT and Library Staff, SRO’s, Counselors, Nurses, BCBA OT and PT staff, Principals, Schedulers, School Psychologists, Transportation Drivers, Food Service, Maintenance and Custodial Staff, Coaches and Advisors as well as Central Office Administration and Staff, Town Hall Elected Officials and Employees, Town Council Members, First Responders, School Committee and our community partners continue to help sustain the liberty and freedoms that the veterans above described. Just as we thank our veterans, those currently serving and all their loved ones, we must thank those within our communities who continue to provide so many opportunities for our students each day.
Have a fantastic week and with World Kindness day being November 13th, it is my hope that you not only spread some kindness, but that you receive kindness each day in multiple ways.
Be well, and most of all be … healthy.
Alan
