Kay's Creek Connection
Week of September 9 Parent Edition
Kay's Creek Updates
Hello Kay's Creek Families,
One of our goals at Kay's Creek is to create and Safe, Supportive, and Collaborative Culture. We will periodically share information about how we do that and invite parents and students to ask questions about those efforts.
This week I want to share that Kay's Creek participates in monthly safety drills to prepare students and staff for the potential need to evacuate the school or protect ourselves from an outside threat. During the 2023 Legislative Session, Utah lawmakers passed HB140, which streamlines school drills and procedures for incidents and threats. These can include a range of potential disruptions during a school day and are designed to ensure the safety of students, educators, and emergency responders. This Standard Response Protocol (SRP) has been around for several years and is considered the gold standard for incident response in schools. These are the protocols our staff and students are trained on, and I invite you to take a look!
Thank you to the dads, uncles, and grandpas who attended our Coyote Pack mtg Thursday to learn more about men volunteering at recesses! They had a great time, and we're grateful to the PTA for hosting us. If you didn't get to attend and want more information, please contact the PTA or office.
Be sure you have next Monday, September 16, reserved for the annual Fall Festival! Avoid the lines and pre-purchase tickets now and sign the bouncehouse waivers. Information is below. 😁
Have a wonderful week!

Counselor's Corner
Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Our ability to reach unity in diversity will be the beauty and the test of our civilization.” His message still rings true today. With all of the wonderful things we share, we’re also fortunate to have friends at Kay’s Creek with unique life experiences and cultural differences. We should never allow those differences to separate or divide us. We can teach our children to learn about, appreciate, and celebrate the differences in one another and to see them as good things. This week we can teach about friendship through intentional conversations about diversity and unity. We can encourage our children and students to discover ways they are both similar and unique to one another. Helping our children recognize and appreciate similarities and differences in our culture, beliefs, and traditions can be vital to creating a welcoming community for Every1.

Policies & Procedures
- Toys should not be brought to school unless a teacher gives permission for a specific purpose. Resin miniatures, such as the little ducks that are so popular, fit under this policy. They are becoming a disruption in class and some students have even begun selling them on the playground. If your child has a collection of these resin figures, please make sure they keep them at home. They are not allowed at school.
- The 2024-25 Belonging & Safe Schools Presentation has been presented to all 1st-6th grade students, with the exception of a few students who were absent. We invite parents of kinder students to view it and determine how you would like to share it with your child.
- Cell phones and smart watches must be kept in students' backpacks, powered down, and not used during school hours for communication. However, if a child needs to contact a parent, they are always able to use a school phone, with teacher permission. Students who require use of either one for a medical or 504 plan are an exception.
- Birthdays are recognized at school by classroom teachers, Principal Bukey, and the PTA. We will not be allowing treats to be brought in from home for student birthdays. This is for the safety of the many students we have with special dietary needs. Thank you for your understanding.
- Parents sometimes bring a special lunch in for their child. We ask that the lunches are kept to single servings so that students are not sharing outside food with tablemates.
Call for Entries
Reflections is just around the corner! Last year we had 52 school entries and many of our students won awards at the region and state levels! Let's do it again this year and show the world how talented our coyotes are!
Instead of a traditional birthday treat, you can donate a book to the school library in your child's name. Click the image to explore the available titles and more details.
