A Season of Change: See You Later, Salish Coast
"See You Later" from Ashley Quinn
As I prepare to say goodbye on November 6th, my heart is filled with bittersweet emotions. Looking back on my journey from Grant Street Elementary to our new building at Salish Coast, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the experiences I’ve had. I have cherished my time spent working with our amazing students, from my days as a paraeducator to my role as secretary, with each interaction leaving a mark on my heart.
I want to express my deepest thanks to all the families, students, staff, and community members who have filled my days with joy, laughter, learning and some unforgettable moments that will have me laughing—and maybe cringing 😜—for years to come! Your support and kindness have made this place feel like home, and I will forever treasure the memories we’ve shared.
I’m excited to share that I’ll be starting my Clinical Mental Health Counseling Internship at MCS Counseling Group this fall! This opportunity will allow me to deepen my skills and knowledge in mental health counseling. I look forward to returning to the school district next year to continue my journey with a School Counseling Internship, where I can support students in their growth and development.
Thank you for nearly a decade of adventures, growth, and unforgettable moments. Though I will miss seeing each of you daily, I look forward to crossing paths around town.
With gratitude,
Ashley Quinn
"See You Later" from Nurse Merilee
Thank you Salish Coast Community!
It has been such an honor to work in the elementary school the past three plus years--getting to know the kids and work with families and teachers to support their health and wellbeing. Elementary school students are such a joy!
We have been through a lot together--responding to a global pandemic, establishing the new normal, and recovering from those challenging years. I am proud of how our community came together to navigate those challenges and trust our ability to always provide a safe, nurturing environment for our kids to learn and grow.
I will be moving on in my career to Newport Academy, working with teens in residential mental health recovery, and I am so pleased to be passing the baton to an amazing nurse and community member, Starla Crowell. Thank you all for your kindness and support!
Sincerely,
Merilee
Turning Over a New Leaf: A Warm Welcome to Our New Secretary and Nurse
Meet Lacey Garcia, Our New Secretary!
We’re pleased to introduce Lacey Garcia, our new secretary at Salish Coast! Lacey was a homemaker before joining our staff two years ago, and she’s now excited to take on this new role. She’s passionate about building healthy connections and helping others feel supported, making her a perfect fit for our school.
Lacey is also a proud mom of a 3rd-grade and a 5th-grade student here at Salish Coast, giving her a unique perspective on the school community. When she’s not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, crocheting, gardening, cooking, and taking beach walks. A fun fact about Lacey—she grew up in Southern Nevada and is the oldest of four daughters!
Lacey loves interacting with our students, especially hearing the funny things they say and seeing their bright smiles. She’s looking forward to learning the ropes of her new position and continuing to help make Salish Coast a welcoming place for everyone.
Welcome, Lacey!
Introducing Starla Crowell, Our New School Nurse!
We’re excited to welcome Starla Crowell as our new school nurse! Before joining Salish Coast, Starla worked as a resource RN at Jefferson Healthcare, gaining experience in five different departments. Starla has known she wanted to be a nurse since she was 14 and is thrilled to now work with kids and their families at school, including her own children, Lydia and Eva.
Outside of work, Starla’s many hobbies include learning languages (she speaks Spanish and Italian and is learning French!), playing a variety of instruments, hiking, reading sci-fi/fantasy, and spending time with her family. She grew up moving frequently, living in parts of Latin America, but has called the Port Townsend area home longer than anywhere else.
Starla loves connecting with kids, listening to their unique perspectives, and, of course, enjoys the occasional dark chocolate treat! She’s excited to have a schedule that lets her spend more time with her family, especially during the holidays—a luxury she didn’t have while working in the hospital.
Welcome Starla!
