Showing Their Support
Students in Ms. Odaman's PreK-3 class at School 1 showed their support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month by wearing pink and Red Ribbon Week by wearing red.
Unity Day
On Oct. 16, during Week of Respect, the School District recognized Unity Day, with students and staff members wearing orange to send a visible message of building commUnity through kindness, acceptance, and inclusion to prevent bullying. The students in Mrs. Murray and Mrs. Coffey's Pre-K 4 class at School 1 are shown above. Charles Olbon School students are shown below.
Peace T-Shirts
For School Violence Awareness Week, Charles Olbon School students designed their own peace t-shirt. While designing, students got to express what it means to be "peaceful" in a creative way! Students during this week learned that peace can mean being kind to other people. Peace can consist of positive thoughts, pure feelings, and good wishes.
Pumpkin Patch
Students at the Early Childhood Center, School 1, and Charles Olbon School took part in the annual Pumpkin Patch over the last week. Each student was able to pick out, decorate, and take home a pumpkin of their choice. Thank you to the WP PreK and Charles Olbon Home & School Associations for providing this activity for the students!
Guest Readers
Mrs. DiBona's third grade class at Beatrice Gilmore School was so excited to welcome more mystery readers during the past two weeks. Viktor's mom, Mrs. Grozdanov, read The Little Prince and had the students complete a collaborative canvas art activity! Alina's grandmother, Mrs. Beckmeyer read the book Unstoppable Me! and discussed important lessons, including the value of taking risks, dealing with stress and anxiety, and learning to enjoy each moment in our lives. We all really enjoyed their visits!!
Reflected Light
The students in Mrs. Tobia and Ms. A’s PreK-4 class at School 1 have been loving the ball study. They discussed disco balls and learned the word “reflect.” They talked about how light reflects off of the ball and onto the wall. The students loved to look at the disco ball with the flashlight and move the reflected light in different directions on the walls.
Harlem Wizards Visit
Charles Olbon School students recently enjoyed an assembly by the Harlem Wizards. The Wizards deliver a character message in every show from their acronym WizFit: Wellness, Imagination, Zero Hate, Fun, Inspiration and Teamwork.
Positive Messages
Last week, Beatrice Gilmore School students put into practice what they learned during the Week of Respect by drawing positive messages on the blacktop.
Watercolor Works
Ms. Face and Ms. E's PreK-3 class at School 1 used a piñata for watercolor art inspiration after reading Hooray a Pinata during their read-aloud time.
