Tiger Times for December 1, 2024
Principal's Message
Dear NMS Families,
The NMS has been hard at work. Students have been making mathematics come alive posting activities and student work across the building. The students in the eighth grade started attending presentations by the high school staff for offerings at MPS. Milab students got to apply their skills.
We are so grateful for the PTA Winter Carnival. This year there were approximately 100 more students attending. Johnny T Tiger was available for photographs with students and staff. We loved having former NMS students run some of the games. The volunteers commented on how well behaved and polite the students were across the event. Students reported having an awesome time with their friends. We appreciate the opportunity for the students to enjoy the school in a more relaxed way.
In partnership,
Dr. Tucker
Fun for Students!
Winter Carnival
The Winter Carnival offered a wide-range of activities with something for everyone. In the gym there was a dodgeball game where even a few teachers participated in this high energy game. Multiple games of basketball were happening. A few students got to show of their skills for their teachers.
In the cafeteria students got to make bracelets, cards and notes while the DJ played holiday music. Students competed with one another in games around the room. Face painting, tattoos and tinsel hair accessorized students to feel the winter spirit.
8th Grade Course Selection
Our first 8thExposure program day was a success! We welcomed current students and faculty from the MHS Biomedical Sciences and Advanced Manufacturing/MiLab programs on Friday to present to our rising 9th graders. The purpose of these presentations was to learn more about academic pathway options and help rising 9th graders make informed decisions about their high school decisions and course selections.
There are four remaining sessions: Graphic Design, TV Pro (12/16), Engineering, and Computer Science (1/3/2025). Please sign up in advance at this google link if you are interested in learning about these programs. The google form only works for student MPS emails.
NMS brings mathematics to life!
Students have been practicing and applying their math skills! You will notice these concepts around the clusters and hallways.

- Using stacking cups as a fun way to practice math facts
- Solving Order of Operations puzzle
- Sharing their knowledge around the school - Area of Triangles
- 6th grade students honed in on their math skills

Our school environment will living the math life~
MiLab

Middleborough High School Musical: A Christmas Carol
Interested in seeing what the Drama Club at the High School is all about. Come see what the MHS students have been putting their whole hearts into!
This year the students will be performing in "A Christmas Carol: the Musical". Bring your families and make it a night supporting the HS, and if your students are planning to attend MHS this will be a great opportunity for them to see what awaits them!
A Christmas Carol is an all-ages musical based on Charles Dickens' timeless classic. This story of love, regret, and transformation touches on the life of Ebeneezer Scrooge as he discovers what the holidays are all about. "

We’re excited to introduce One Middleborough: Learning Together, a new program designed to provide families with valuable resources on a wide range of topics. From incorporating math into everyday activities with your child to mental health support, we’ve got you covered.
This program will feature short videos, mini-podcasts, flyers, and events, all aimed at helping families navigate important topics. Watch Superintendent Lyons share the vision behind One Middleborough: Learning Together in this brief video.
Have a topic you’d like us to cover? Let us know by filling out the form on the One Middleborough page!
Late Bus:
There are four late buses. In the cafeteria, where students gather prior to boarding, there are four books with addresses. Each book tells the students which bus they board based on their address. The bus passes given to the driver has your student's address. This allows the driver to make sure students are able to make it home appropriately.

Inclement Weather Procedure
As we head into the colder months of the school year, we wanted to share with you some information about inclement weather and how we will approach the decision making process of school delays and/or closure. One of the most difficult challenges we have is deciding whether or not to cancel or delay school due to inclement weather. Like weather forecasting, the school-closing decision process is not a perfect science. However, we believe it is important for students and families to understand how it works as Middleborough has its own unique set of factors that are taken into consideration when determining delays and/or cancellations.
We recognize that the decision to cancel school for the day is impactful on all families. Student and staff safety will always be my top priority as I navigate these decisions. We hope you find this information helpful in your planning for the coming winter months and helps everyone understand the process used to make the best possible decision for our students and staff.
