Koch's Corner
Leeds Future Stars Family and Friends!
It is unreal that we are approaching the time of year when we start thinking about planning for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. At Leeds we will soon be very busy creating class lists. This process will extend through the spring and summer months. We are intentional and thorough in the process we use to create those lists. The process includes carefully considering the needs of all students in the areas of academics, behavior, and social-emotional needs. We have students that require special programming by law to consider during class list development as well. Therefore, just as in the past, I will honor your teacher requests to the best of my ability.
To be able to ensure we are doing what is best for the students at Leeds Elementary School, we are asking for any teacher requests be made in the following manner:
- All requests should be made in writing on a hard copy or in an email to me no later than the end of the day on Friday, March 3, 2023. I will not take requests in person or over the phone to ensure no requests will be misplaced or overlooked in transition.
- Feel free to send your request in a sealed envelope to our office with your child, or you can email me your requests directly at the following address:
kochr@live.siouxcityschools.com
Thanks,
Mr. Koch

Costs for Damaged or Destroyed Devices Add Up
The District provides every student with a device to enhance the overall learning experience. When a student receives their device, it is their responsibility to take appropriate care of the device. Unfortunately, the District has hundreds of devices damaged or destroyed each year. In just the first few months of this school year, the District has already received 1,400 tickets for damaged devices including nearly 275 devices which have been destroyed. The high numbers result in significant costs including higher insurance costs for the District annually.
As noted in the Parent/Guardian and Student Handbook, the District may charge fees ranging from $20 for lost adaptors to $250 for device losses when repairs are required to a student’s device. Please remind your child about the responsibility that goes with having a device and encourage them to review the Student Device Program Acceptable Use Agreement, located in the handbook. Additional information can be found in Board Policy 581.12.
If your student has issues with their device, they may contact their school’s librarian assistant.

Let's Talk
An engaged community makes our District stronger. That is why we have made it easy for you to connect with us whenever it is convenient for you. We encourage you to take advantage of Let’s Talk!, our 24/7 online submission site. Reach out with your ideas, questions, concerns, and praise. Communication and Preparedness
Student and staff safety is of paramount importance in the Sioux City Community School District. For this reason, the District exercises a host of crisis prevention and planning tactics. Should an emergency occur, the school notifies you through our Blackboard phone system. In an emergency, the system calls every phone number associated with your child in order to reach you. The message will give you details about the emergency and provide directions on when/where to pick up your child if the normal school day is altered. Learn more about school safety.
