From the Principal's Desk
Dear Adler Park Families,
This month’s Adler Core Value of focus is “perseverance.” (This is so very fitting for this time of year when the days feel long and the weather does not always cooperate!)
Each classroom read the book “The Magical Yet” by Angela DiTerlizzi. This book illustrates the importance of positive self-talk and the idea of growth mindset. Students met in classroom circles to share our building-wide definition of perseverance: continuing to work hard even when something is difficult or takes time. They were also taught how important it is to work hard, try, and fail and then keep trying again. They were able to discuss examples of when they persevered in their own lives and built a classroom goal around something that requires group perseverance. Please ask your student about this month’s core value!
As always, I am so grateful for our Adler families and your collaboration,
Kendall

January SEL Update
During SEL instruction, your student(s) will begin Unit 3 of Second Step. Below you will find updates on what they’ll be able to do by the end of the month.
Kindergarten- This month, your student will learn that kindness is a way to show care and make others feel good, practice suggesting kind acts for different scenarios, share personal examples of giving and receiving kindness, and practice specific kind acts such as asking, “Would you like to share?” and “Would you like a hug?”
1st Grade- In January, your child will learn that kind acts can help others feel good, practice suggesting kind acts for various scenarios, and develop specific ways to show kindness, such as asking, “Are you okay?” offering to keep someone company, helping others, and inviting someone to join.
2nd Grade- During SEL, your student will learn that empathy means understanding and feeling what someone else is experiencing, reflect on a time they felt empathy and how it influenced their actions, and practice using empathy to suggest kind acts for others in various situations.
3rd Grade- During lessons, your student will learn how empathy and kindness can help build and strengthen friendships and explore how people appreciate kindness in different ways.
4th Grade- While engaging in Second Step, your student will learn that people can have different points of view, and they will practice listening, asking questions, and observing to better understand perspectives different from their own.
5th Grade- Your student will learn how empathy can help identify and solve problems in their community by exploring issues in their school, understanding how these problems affect different groups, and considering diverse perspectives to create positive and inclusive solutions.
Talent Show!

Spring Sing
3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade Families,
I am excited to invite you to Adler's Spring Sing, "Spring Break!". 3rd-5th grade students have started working on songs for this performance and will be so excited for you to see the finished product. The performance is Tuesday, March 11th at Copeland Manor School beginning at 7:00 PM. The performance will take place in the gym. All students should arrive in the multipurpose room at 6:45 PM to meet with their classroom teacher. Students should wear touristy clothing for this event (think Hawaiian shirts, beach clothing, or adventurous clothing for hiking). Additional details and reminders will be sent as the date approaches.

Artsonia
Our mission is to bring together to celebrate children's artistic expressions
Adler artists will be creating online portfolios on Artsonia to reflect and share their artwork this year. Artsonia is the world's largest collection of student art, published by teachers and students from around the world. Students love to share their work through Artsonia. Parents and family can view the art online, maintain a digital art gallery, leave comments and order keepsakes featuring the artwork (20% of all purchases are donated back to your child’s art program).
