Highlander Happenings
November 2024
Happy November!
Thank you for a wonderful first trimester of school! Parent Conference week went well and teachers enjoyed getting to know you better and share all the great things about your kiddo. If you missed your conference or never signed up, please reach out to your teacher to schedule a time to talk. Report cards are on Parent Connect.
Thanks to all who came out for the Halloween Parade. It was a fun morning and the students were super excited to show off their costumes and dance at our blacktop party afterwards. We love seeing our staff dressed up as well and were impressed by the creativity. You can see from this picture, that all of the Harvey Bears on campus yesterday morning had a very serious meeting to discuss all bear related things! :)
Monday is the start of our second trimester and it's going to be a packed one! Students are busy learning grade level Common Core standards and getting ready for district assessments and the state test in April and May. The learning they are doing is so important to prepare them for future grade levels, so please make sure they are here every day so they don't miss out!
We are THANKFUL for all of our students and families and appreciate your support!

Families - Prado PRIDE are the five traits we work with our students on daily! We have monthly pep rallies to kick off the trait of the month. This month our pep rally will center around the "I" for "Have Integrity." We teach our students that having integrity means having the courage to do what is right, even when no one is looking. This involves teaching students about honesty, responsibility, and helping them to develop a solid ethical foundation to guide their decisions and actions.
We also teach our students to Respect The Bubble And There Will Be No Trouble! This is said every single day on the announcements and out and about on campus. Students may not get in anyone's "bubble" by touching, hitting, kicking, etc.
Arrival and Dismissal Reminders
ARRIVAL:
*Please pull ALL THE WAY down as far as you can each morning. It does not matter which gate your child enters...they can walk to their gate. This helps speed up the drop off line and get cars off of Ridgeline.
*Please do not cut the line. We know it is tempting to bypass a car that is stopped and letting out a child, but this practice has been very dangerous with people almost getting hit. The outside lane is only for those parking in the lot or leaving the lot.
*The small parking lot is only for our special ed busses and classes. Please do not park there and let out your general ed student.
*There is only ONE crosswalk and that is where Mr. Miller, our security guard stands. Please only cross there. Do not walk your students through the parking lot.
DISMISSAL: We use both the front gates as well as the park gates.
*ALL Kinders will dismiss through the park gate. There will be NO dismissal at the front of the school due to Kindergarten getting out 15 mins before 1st-6th grade. Siblings will be considered walkers and will also exit at the park gate.
*AM TK will dismiss at the Kinder gate.
*PM TK will dismiss at the park gate.
As always, please stay in your car for arrival and dismissal and pull all the way down so we can get all cars through in a timely manner. Thank you!
Please remember you are at a school. Watch your speeds, your language, and your horn. Safety is our number one priority!
We thank you for your help with our arrival and dismissal procedures!
Safety At School
Raptor: All visitors are required to check in at the office and go through our Raptor system. Visitors all wear name tags or badges. Please also remember to bring your ID with you when checking out your children early from school.
Parent Connect: In the event of a major emergency at school, admin, law enforcement, and district administration will work together to secure our campus and ensure student and staff safety. In addition, parent communication will be a top priority. Please check your Parent Connect account to ensure your contact information is accurate and up to date. The first priority is student safety followed closely by quick and accurate communication.
Drills: As you are aware, the safety and well-being of our students is always of primary importance to our school and district. Every month, we conduct fire drills and several times throughout the year we conduct lockdown and earthquake drills. Our objective is for students and staff to practice what to do in the case of an emergency as well as for us to evaluate our procedures and school environment. We also walk our campus daily to ensure gates are closed/locked and there are no unrecognized people here.

Physical and Emotional Safety at School: Every month teachers show the "Words Matter" video (TK-6th) as well as the "Threats, Real of Fake" video (5th/6th) in their classrooms.
The purpose of this Words Matter Video is to discuss the power of students’ words with the goal of teaching students that phrases such as “I’m gonna kill you,” and words like “stab, shoot, and blow up” are not suitable to say at school. Instead, this video encourages kindness and to use words to build others up instead of tearing them down.
Please know, anytime we are made aware of a threat (joking or not) we will investigate. Depending on the situation, our District and law enforcement partners may also fully investigate to ensure school safety. Unfortunately, there continues to be a large strain on District and law enforcement resources investigating many fake threats, jokes, etc. which have been deemed not credible.
If you would like to view these videos, you can find the links below:
As always, we appreciate your partnership in reinforcing with our students the importance of being mindful of their words, hand gestures, social media posts, and jokes.
**We also know that many kids think they are joking around with each other and may use insensitive names that make fun of another person's culture or race. This is VERY inappropriate and unacceptable. We have no tolerance for this type of behavior so please speak with your child about not making these types of comments.
If you have any questions regarding these videos, please feel free to contact us with any questions.
Technology at School
Chromebooks
Every child, TK-12th grade, is given a Chromebook upon entry to a CNUSD school. The expectation is that your child keep it year after year. Please help your child label their Chromebook as they all look similar. This year, the District has provided cases to all students to help keep it protected.
It is also the responsibility of families to pay for any damages or lost Chromebooks. If Chromebook fees are not paid, your child will not get a diploma when they graduate high school due to outstanding fines. This is also the same for unpaid library fines. If you have questions about a Chromebook bill you received, please contact the office.

Cell Phones & Smart Watches
At Prado View, we require all cell phones powered OFF as soon as students come on to campus in the morning. They may turn them on after they walk through the gates to leave campus. Cell phones need to be kept in backpacks. Smart Watches may NOT be used for texting or phone calls.
**Please refrain from texting your child while at school. You are welcome to call our front office and we will get a message to your child.
Thank you for helping your child stay focused on their learning while in class!
Phone/Tablet Safety
As students become more digitally proficient, we as adults need to work hard at staying up to speed on what kids are doing online. Here are some helpful tips when managing your child's access to technology at home...
*Keep screens and devices where you can see them
*Friend your child on Snapchat, Instagram, etc. so you can see what he/she posts
*Know who their online friends are
*Teach your child to keep their location private
*Don't let them go to bed with their phones or tablets
*View your child's text chats
*Set a specific amount of screen time your child can have each day
*Encourage your child to have open communication with you about what they see/hear
*Consider getting a parent control app like Bark, Qustodio, Net Nanny, Kidslox or Life 360.
With more access to technology comes more headaches. Hopefully this list of ideas we put together helps manage technology issues at home.
