Mac El Weekly News
Week of September 13
From the Principal
As we close out the book fair this week, we hope it has ignited a passion for reading in the minds of our students and families. The excitement of selecting new books can spark a lifelong love of learning. Remember, books are more than just stories; they are windows to new worlds, tools for understanding, and companions on countless adventures. Let's continue to prioritize reading in our homes and classrooms.
Our teachers are diligently implementing our new reading program and working closely with students to ensure they have a strong foundation in phonics. By mastering phonics skills, students will be better equipped to decode words independently and improve their overall reading fluency. This will ultimately increase their confidence and enjoyment of reading.

Students will be learning from home this Wednesday, Sep. 18. This is a little different from our weather-related virtual days. Assignments will be posted in Google Classroom by 8:00 am. Students will work on their assignments and will not be required to attend Google Meets as they do on a weather-related virtual day. Teachers will have office hours from 10:30 am - 11:30 am and 2:15 pm - 3:15 pm where students can join a Google Meet and ask questions or seek help. Students can also email their teachers outside of these hours. Teachers will be engaged in professional development and will respond to emails as they are able.
Attendance
Regular attendance is crucial for studentsβ academic success. When students miss school, they often miss important lessons, assignments, and opportunities for interaction with their classmates and teachers. This can lead to falling behind in their studies and feeling discouraged. Itβs essential for students to attend school consistently to build a strong foundation for their education and future goals.
If your child will not be at school, you must leave the reason for your child's absence when calling into the attendance line. Thank you!
Guidance Department
Love your Life Week
Students have been encouraged to reflect on the things they love about their lives this week. This activity has been integrated into their bullying education sessions during guidance classes. By identifying what they love about their lives, students are likely to feel more positive and good about themselves, which can have a positive impact on those around them.
Important Safety Reminder for All Extra-curricular Events
We appreciate families supporting Maconaquah at extra-curricular events. We want to remind all families of the importance of supervising your children at all extra-curricular events. For the safety of our students, elementary and middle school students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian in attendance at these events.
Please note that running around and engaging in rough play, such as throwing footballs, rocks, etc., can pose a risk to both players and spectators. In order to maintain a safe environment for everyone, we ask that you refrain from allowing your children to participate in these activities.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated, as it helps us in creating a positive and safe atmosphere for our community.

π Braves of the Week
2nd Grade: Emma Herschberger
Emma is such a joy in the library. I love to see her facial expressions while she is listening during our story time. She is always polite and kind to other students. Emma takes her time looking for perfect books to check out and reads them quietly at her table. She is a great example of a BRAVE and I am so proud of her!
3rd Grade: Kalliope Torres
Kalliope is new to our school district and she is absolutely fabulous! She is creative, happy, loving, and very caring. She is seriously a ray of sunshine every day and she works so hard. So happy to have you in our lives this year. Keep being amazing. We are so proud of you!
4th Grade: Greyson Couch
Greyson goes above and beyond in the classroom. He is always willing to participate and shows what he knows in class. He is a very kind and respectful young man.
5th Grade: Makennah Deneen
Makennah is a great asset to our classroom! She is constantly willing to lend a helping hand and completes tasks without even being asked. Makennah is thoughtful of others and a friend to everyone. She puts her best efforts into every task that she completes.
