A Note from Mrs. Pitts
Dear RES Families,
Have a wonderful winter break and HAPPY NEW YEAR! I want to tell myself that you will all read the newsletter next Thursday afternoon but that might be wishful thinking? If there is anything important that needs to get communicated I will be sure to let you know:)
Here is a synthesis of what you might need to know to keep you organized:
1. Post the spirit week information in your home and get ready for some festive fun next week.
2. Consider baking for our staff PTA cookie swap: Monday, December 16th:
Rye PTA Volunteers: RES Holiday Staff Appreciation Cookie Swap
3. Email Lori Flint with any food lists for holiday parties.
4. Let us know if you need anything or have any questions!
Warmly,
Michelle Pitts
Bowling-Grades 3 and 4
All students at RES are participating in the Learn To Bowl program in Physical Education classes in December. This is a free program through Bowl - O - Rama where they lend us bowling equipment to learn the sport. This program includes, strategy, movement, coordination and motor planning. Students also work on cooperation, math skills, and build language skills around the sport of bowling. In January our third and fourth grade students will take part in a field trip to the Bowl - O - Rama to test out their skills. Permission slips went home this week and should be returned by Monday, December 16th. The Learn to Bowl program is a great community connection to a lifelong activity for our students. Thank you Bowl - O - Rama!
NEW TIME - Leave RES at 9:45 Leave bowl - o -rama to return to RES at 11:05. Back in time for lunch.
Spirit Week: Next Week!

Lunch in Our Caf
We invite one family member at a time to have lunch with their child(ren) but this is very optional and we don't want families to feel pressured to attend. This is an occasional event as we do want children to build independence and social skills in the cafeteria, a perfect time for this!
- Email resoffice@sau50.org if you would like to attend with the date/time. It is important to anticipate who will be in the building. We love these opportunities for students and their family members but we will always put safety first.
- Adults must bring their own lunch and can bring lunch for their own child.
- We do have a focus during this time...eating for energy and brain power!
- Family members must meet the child in the cafeteria and leave from the cafeteria.
- Days for family visits are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We do not have lunch visitors on Fridays.
- Lunch times are:
Kindergarten-11:45-12:10
First Grade-12:10-12:35
Second Grade-12:10-12:35
Third Grade- 11:15-11:40
Fourth Grade-11:15-11:40
VIRTUAL Community Book Club with RJH!
The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt and Greg Lukianoff explores the cultural shifts that have contributed to a rise in anxiety and mental health issues among today’s youth. The authors argue that changes in parenting styles, social media dynamics, and societal attitudes towards safety and emotional well-being have created a generation that is more anxious and less resilient. They offer insights into the implications of these changes and suggest ways to foster greater emotional strength and resilience in young people.
Complete the book over the holidays and join us for two virtual sessions of meaningful conversations and connection as we navigate these crucial issues together!
THIS IS VIRTUAL!!

Week in Review
Choice Time in PE
Mrs. Warden is known for her creative games and for providing students with explicit instruction, teaching them the fundamentals for a myriad of games that many students may not learn in school, such as Pickleball or bowling. However, at the end of class, she understands the importance of allowing students to have choice and provides free time when imaginations soar and the gym is filled with smiles. Allowing students this free time leads to moments like this, building a house of blocks so students can take a rest in their "bed" at the end of their exercise time!
Mall in the Hall
Students in grades 3 and 4 became business owners and entrepreneurs today. They made items at home (*candles, baked goods, ornaments, slime and more) and sold them at our annual Mall in the Hall. They also learn about service as all the money is donated to a good cause.
