Week of October 15, 2024
A Note from the Principal
Dear Parents,
I hope you're all doing well! Next week is an exciting and busy time for our school community. Please mark your calendars for Parent-Teacher Conferences happening throughout the week. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher, discuss their progress, and collaborate on their success.
We are also thrilled to invite you to Literacy Night on Thursday, October 17, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. This event is designed to spark a love for reading in students of all ages! We’ll have interactive reading stations, book-themed activities, and even a local author. You’ll also get tips on how to support reading development at home. It's a fantastic opportunity for families to engage in fun, educational activities and walk away with new ideas to inspire a love of books.
Lastly, don't forget about our PTA Sponsored Trunk or Treat Night on Thursday, October 26. It’s sure to be a spooky good time with lots of creative costumes and candy!
We look forward to seeing you at these upcoming events!
Educationally yours,
Kevin Payne
Lovin's MTSS Snapshot
At Lovin Elementary we support student's academic and behavioral needs through Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework. The MTSS infrastructure, works to support students by preventing barriers to implementation within tiered academics and behavioral instruction. When our school's MTSS team takes a holistic approach to engaging families and creating resources and organizational structures to meet the needs of the families in their communities, students are more likely to be successful.
It is important that families have a voice in decision-making throughout the MTSS process. Families should participate in problem-solving discussions with their child’s teacher and communicate their child’s strengths, weaknesses, and specific area(s) of need(s). Lovin's MTSS team partners with parents to help families understand their role within the MTSS framework. As educators begin implementing the framework, more families are educating themselves about the components of MTSS and the supports provided to their child.

Lovin Literacy Night
Come meet local author D.C.Phillips during our Literacy Night
D.C.'s book, "Man's Best Phantom" has received a 5 star rating here is a snipit of his current work.
“Our new home is old. Long, green vines creep all the way from the ground up to the roof, and when the wind blows too hard, the window shutters bang on their hinges. The house belonged to Carson’s great-grandparents.” Horace, a loyal and loveable pup, is excited to move into his family’s new home! He can’t wait to explore the sprawling gardens, chase – er, meet – new animal friends, and rummage for treats in unexpected places. When strange things start happening, though, Horace realizes he may not be the only dog in the house…

Media Center News
There are some exciting things happening in our Media Center program soon! We will be starting Readers Rally in the beginning of October. We'll also have the Scholastic book fair here after Fall Break. Be on the look out for more information about both of these things!
The Scholastic Book Fair will be at Lovin October 18 - 24! We will celebrate with a Grand Opening during Literacy Night, Thursday October 17 from 6:00PM - 7:00 PM. Bring the family to shop and enjoy the fun! All book fair profits will go towards purchasing new furniture that promotes collaboration and allows more flexible seating options. Classes will shop October 18 - 24. The book fair will also be open until 6:00 Wednesday October 23 and 4:00 Thursday October 24.
The book fair will be CASHLESS this year! Parents are welcome to come shop with their child when their class comes to shop, during Literacy Night, or after school on early release days. We will accept credit/debit cards, Google Pay, and Apple Pay from parents. Parents can also set up eWallet accounts through Scholastic. If you set up an eWallet account, family and friends can add to the account as well! If you plan for your child to shop without an adult (not their teacher), your child will need an eWallet account.
Be on the lookout for more information as we get closer to the book fair. Use the link below to access our book fair website for information!

Lovin Elementary Schools Annual Veterans Day Program
On Friday, November 8th, Lovin Elementary will present our annual Veterans’ Day Program. During this time, the children will honor the men and women who have served in the armed forces of the United States of America. Our program will begin at 9:00 AM on Friday, November 8th. Following our program, we will have our traditional parade around our school, followed by a reception with light refreshments for our veterans and their families.
We would like to invite you and your family to enjoy this program with us. If you, a relative, or a family friend is a veteran or is presently serving in the military and can attend our program, we would like to recognize them in a special way. If you have a veteran or active service member who will be present at our program, please complete the form below and send it back no later than Friday, October 25th. This will allow us enough time to prepare the certificates and order the medals.
Additionally, we will have a brief video presentation using photographs of our veterans. If you have a photo of your veteran in uniform, we would also like to include them in this presentation. Please send the photograph(s) as well as the form on the back to your child’s teacher in a sealed envelope with your child’s name and their teacher’s name. Your child may turn their marked envelope to their teacher or drop them off at the front office. The photographs will be returned promptly after they have been scanned. Thank you for your help with this worthwhile matter, and we hope to see everyone in November for our program.
Sincerely,
Caroline Suggs

PBIS
Another significant piece in our PBIS framework are our dens. We have 6 dens: Confianza (trust), Mutunci (integrity), Nuli (effort), Numuun (growth), Respe (respect), and Servicio (service). All students and staff members are divided into dens when they arrive at Lovin. Each homeroom class has a mix of students from all dens. The last Friday of each month, students meet with their denmates and teacher during TIGER Time to participate in a PBIS lesson and make connections with their denmates. In October’s den meeting, all students learned about conflict resolution and discussed some strategies to use when working to resolve a conflict. We also have a friendly den competition to see which den can earn the most points for our TIGER Trait focus each month. The winning den receives a treat at their monthly den meeting. In the month of October, our TIGER Trait focus was RESPECT. The Confianza den earned the most points for RESPECT in the month of October. Our TIGER Trait focus for November is RESPECT again. We can’t wait to see what den earns the most points for RESPECT this month!
