MAP Reading and Math Assessment
All 6-8 students of WMS will be taking the MAP Reading and Math Assessment.
This assessment is used to determine your students’ growth in Reading and Math and is part of a balanced assessment system used in South Washington County Schools. Here are some important ways we use MAP data:
- To inform instruction during the current school year
- To identify students to receive Advanced Learner Services,
- To identify or exit students from reading and/or math intervention supports, and
- To place students in the appropriate 6th grade math courses
If you would like to opt your student out of this test, parents/guardians must fill out this form by 9/6/2024 and submit it to the school.

New Cell Phone Guidelines
Starting this school year there are new guidelines regarding cell phones and E-devices (AirPods, iPads/tablets, iPods, Bluetooth speakers, portable music players, game players, cameras, video cameras, smart watches, etc.) in our schools.
Grades K-8 AWAY FOR THE DAY
Starting the first day of school, from 7:50am-2:26pm, cell phones or other E-devices should be turned off and secured in lockers.
We firmly believe that these Cell Phone Guidelines will positively impact the learning experience of our students and create an environment where every student can thrive academically and socially.
Important High School Event Spectator Information
As large metro high schools, we host large events and bring community members together to celebrate and support our teams and programs.
During these events, we are continually assessing and examining our protocols for spectator safety, enjoyment and security. The administration from East Ridge, Park and Woodbury high schools have collaborated, developed and shared similar protocols and messaging for our respective sites addressing expectations for spectators attending our events:
- Children, ages infant through middle school, must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times during the game. (three (3) students to one (1) adult for elementary and middle school students)
- No backpacks are allowed at games.
- Outside beverages cannot be brought into the stadium.
- Once a spectator leaves the stadium no readmittance is permitted.
- Spectators should not bring balls to throw or other sporting equipment to play with at events.
- Spectators should not go on the playing surface during an event unless called down for emergency purposes.
- In respecting the opponent's playing surface, we will recognize and celebrate team members outside the playing area once the team has left the playing area. Please do not go onto the playing surface after contests when competing as visitors.
- Students should be picked up within 20 minutes of the conclusion of the game.
- Positive and supportive sportsmanship is expected at all times. Spectators who disrupt the game or other spectators will be removed from the stadium.
- Students from any SoWashCo School who violate district policies while attending our games and events will be subject to discipline in accordance with the Students Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.
- Online ticketing is available for home regular season contests.
- In case of an emergency, please stay calm and follow the directions of the staff at the event.
The Suburban East Conference (SEC) is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all participants, coaches, officials, and spectators. Sportsmanship and fair play are at the center of education-based athletics and activities.
We expect you to be positive in your support of our teams. There is no place for behavior that promotes disrespect, hate, or harm to individuals or groups regardless of race, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, ability, home of first language, religion, national origin, age, and/or physical appearance. Any individual or group who demonstrates behaviors that do not support this belief statement is subject to removal from all SEC events.

Important Back to School Information
Bus Rider ID Cards
Starting this school year all K-12 general education bus riders will be given a “Bus Rider ID” card. Students will use their Bus Rider IDs to scan when they get on and off the bus each day. ECSE and Special Education students will NOT be issued a Bus Rider ID or required to participate in the program.
Using a Bus Rider ID is required to get on or off a bus. However, students will NOT be denied access to ride the bus if they forget or have misplaced their Bus Rider ID (replacement IDs can be printed if they are lost). We ask every bus rider to do their best to remember their Bus Rider ID and to scan on and off the bus.
Eligible bus riders can obtain their Bus Rider IDs from their school at either the open-house event or during their first day of school.
The goal of the new Bus Rider ID system is to increase the efficiency and safety of our bus routes. The data from the Bus Rider ID system will help track ridership trends and provide our transportation department with safety information such as who is scanned onto a bus.

Health Office Information
We are looking forward to welcoming students back in a few short weeks. If your student will need to take daily medication in the health office or have a procedure done during the school day, please refer to the link below and click the Medications at School tab to find the correct form .
https://www.sowashco.org/services/health.
Medication Authorization Form: Should be filled out if your student will be needing to take prescription medications during the school day or will need to have a procedure done during the school day. Form should be returned with the medication to be administered and all necessary supplies for the procedure prior to the first day of school. This form should also be filled out and signed by both Parent and Provider.
Self-Authorization Form: If your student will be self-carrying a prescription medication for emergencies such as Inhalers or Epi-Pens, this form must be filled out and returned. The LSN will meet with the student and will update records to show self-carry approval. Even if you have previously filled out the self-carry form, a new one is needed each year. We do encourage middle school students to self-carry their inhalers as much as possible.
OTC medications: If you want your student to be able to take Tylenol or Ibuprofen during the school day, please update information in Campus authorizing self-carry of these medications. Note: you must send the medication with your student as the health office does not supply medications
Also now is a great time to check in with your child(ren)’s provider to ensure that all vaccines are current. Health office staff return to Woodbury Middle School on August 26th and we will be available to answer any questions. Please feel free to email or call with questions or concerns.
