T.H.E. Trail Guide

Tehaleh Heights Elementary
Trailblazer Families,
Our partnership with families and the Tehaleh Heights community is important to us. We appreciate how we work together for the safety of all our students.
Safety is a top priority for THE. Getting students to and from school is a busy time and our Silent Dismissal system really helps. This system keeps our students safe by checking them out of their classroom so they can be on their way to meet up at the parent waiting area, take a short walk home, climb into a waiting car, or attend our Right at School program.
I would like to clarify the definition of a "walker" in our system. A walker is a student who will be independently walking all the way home. We do not release walkers so they can be picked up in the parking lot and we do not allow students to be in the parking lot without an adult.
Soon our days will be getting dark and rain will be coming and our parking lot is busy. Please slow down and be mindful of our crosswalks for the safety of our staff and students.
We also are asking that students and families check the clock each morning before heading out. We suggest families time how long it takes students to get to school if they ride a bike, scooter, or walk and make sure they don't leave to early. We do not have supervision until 10:20 on Mondays and 8:45 Tuesday-Friday.
Please review and follow our drop off and pick up procedures and and when you have questions, you are always welcome to call our office at 253-891-6530.

State Law and Required Attendance
The Sumner-Bonney Lake School District and staff care about the well-being and academic achievement of each student. We know that daily attendance is one of the most powerful predictors of school success and on-time graduation. Our goal is to have every student at school on time, every day.
State law for mandatory attendance, called the Becca Bill, requires children from age 8 to 17 to attend a public school, private school or a district-approved home school program. Children who are 6 or 7 years old are not required to be enrolled in school. However, if parents enroll their 6 or 7 year old, the student must attend full time. And, school districts are required, under RCW 28.225.020 and RCW 28A.225.030 to take a series of actions when students accrue absences.
Also by law, we notify parents/guardians when their student is absent. If a student reaches a certain number of unexcused absences the school will contact parents/guardians to create a plan to support good attendance. Find information about excuse and unexcused absences, tardies and attendance procedures in the district’s Student & Family Information Guide and Policy 3122 Excused and Unexcused Absences.
Ready for the Future
Improvements to Tehaleh Heights are included in November's bond. Check out the video below.
Developed by the community and on the Nov. 5 ballot, PROP. 1:
- Relieves student overcrowding
- Takes care of basics that extend school life and saves money in long-run
- Expands space for career, technical & vocational education
- Heath, safety, and security maintained at all schools
- Expands multi-use turf fields for year-round use by students & community
Changing Weather
Our summer season is coming to an end and the fall feeling is here! Please make sure your student has a sweatshirt or jacket for the morning and a light layer for the afternoon. With so many fun options at recess, some of our young ladies with skirts and dresses struggle to keep them from flipping up. We suggest a pair of shorts or leggings underneath might be a comfortable option.
Is your student already missing a clothing item? Please have them stop by the lost and found by the office to take a look. It is very helpful if families label clothing items so we can quickly find the owner.
Thank you!!
