Need to Know
Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences Nov 21 & 22: BOOKING IS OPEN! The instructions for booking appointments are attached. Please note that conferences are not mandatory and you have the option to contact a teacher to arrange a phone call or alternate meeting time if that is preferable. Also, you may wish to wait until the Term 1 reports are emailed to you (target date Tuesday Nov 19) and then arrange appointments accordingly. Students are expected to attend the virtual meetings with their parents on Nov 21 & 22.
Grade 8 Science Olympics: Grade 8 students interested in competing in a science challenge with ECS, need to submit this form by Friday, November 15. Ten students will be asked to participate in this event, being held 1-3:00pm on Tuesday, Nov. 19th (during period 4 & a bit of phys. ed.). Participating students must have permission from their teacher and coach. For more information, please speak with Ms. Corbie (corbieh@sewlyn.ca).
True to Others Campaign: Soup Collection: A representative from The Hadley Community will be speaking at an upcoming assembly to kick off Middle School's True to Others Campaign, which is focusing on food security. To thank them for coming to speak, we are launching a soup collection campaign and we will give the cans of soup to the representative following her assembly presentation. Keep an eye out for more community engagement programming to come.
Morning Run for Movember: To help promote men's physical and mental health during the month of November, we'll be holding a couple of optional morning runs Tuesday, November 19, 2024 and Tuesday November 26, 2024. We’ll meet by the Veritas sign at 7:15am, we will run approximately 5 km, ending with a hill run for those who can handle it, and we will return to school by about 7:50am. After the run, participants will receive 1 free breakfast item and be permitted to wear Selwyn athletic gear for the rest of the school day. You do not need to be a serious runner to join! You do not need to be growing a moustache to join! You must wear weather appropriate running gear, though. If you are interested, please sign up here. Email Dan Elbling (elblingd@selwyn.ca) if you have any questions.
Argyle Shop News: Please note that the Argyle Shop will be closed for all online and instore shopping from November 21-29 inclusively. Outside of those dates, purchases can be made online as usual and regular store hours remain for in-store shopping: Mondays and Thursdays from 7:30-11am and Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2-4pm.
Athletics News: The Gryphons CSSHL Hockey Team is excited to host their season Home Opener on Saturday, November 16, at 6:30 PM at the Westmount Recreation Center. We invite the entire Selwyn House community to come out, cheer loudly, and support our team as they hit home ice. Let’s show our Gryphons spirit and make it a memorable evening! Special Athletic Fan shirts are still available at the Argyle Shop with proceeds going to the Gryphon Fund get yours today at www.argyleshop.ca
24hrs for the unhoused: Earlier this week, 32 middle and senior school students participated in our annual 24 Hours for the Unhoused event. During the event, they prepared 650 sandwiches for local shelters and listened to speakers from organizations dedicated to supporting the homeless and other nonprofits working to combat homelessness in Montreal. The evening featured an impactful story from a man who shared his experiences of living on the streets for over 20 years. The night concluded with the Dans la Rue truck providing food and hot chocolate as the boys prepared for a night sleeping outdoors in the cold. We are deeply grateful for their remarkable participation. Additionally, we have extended our soup and socks collection until the end of the month. If you can donate canned soup or new socks, please send them with your sons to drop off in the designated areas. Thank you for your continued support!
Founder's Day 2024: The Selwyn House community is invited to attend the celebration of the 116th anniversary of the founding of the school on Thursday, November 28 in Coristine Hall. Reception starts at 6pm, presentations begin at 6:45pm. Click here for more information about the evening and to RSVP.
Selwyn House School’s Annual Giving Campaign launched last week. Donations will support this year's priorities: programs, initiatives, professional development, student bursaries, Grade 12, The Gryphon Fund and more. Annual gifts from our community provide an extra level of support to help defray costs that are not covered by tuition alone. Your contributions, no matter the size, are crucial to offering the Selwyn House Experience to our students and families. We thank our entire community (parents, alumni, alumni parents, grandparents, staff, and friends) for your support. Participate today!

Holiday Marketplace at SHS December 5: With the holiday season just around the corner, the PVA is excited to announce it is organizing its first Holiday Marketplace on Thursday December 5. Keeping sustainability in mind, the PVA will start collecting gently used items including toys, games, puzzles, holiday decorations, sports equipment and more, for resale to students and family members in a holiday market format. All the money raised will benefit Resilience Montreal, a non-profit day shelter. It's a great opportunity for parents to get involved! Sign up if you can contribute baked goods and/or volunteer for a shift. Items can be dropped off outside the Lucas Seminar room from now until Dec. 4th. The PVA is also hosting several "car trunk" drop offs where parents can put any items for donation directly into a car, including Thursday and Friday Nov. 21 and 22nd during parent-student-teacher conferences.
